I'm a gay conservative?

I don't agree with Democrats on everything, and they can be homophobic, too, but for me it's the lesser of two evils. After GW's disastrous presidency and 8 years of his moral pontificating, I vowed never again to vote Republican. If I don't like a Democratic candidate, I'll vote third party and call it good.

Far better to vote 'third party' than to stop voting -- I wish everyone saw that! ..|

A voter has two options in a democracy: First, voting for someone in a field of reasonable choices. Second, running for office to ensure a reasonable choice.

Thanks for defending conservative values I consider myself a true libertarian. and I hold to many of the conservatives views. The exception is when it comes to religion, which I believe has been the most destructive and freedom suppressing force ever imposed on mankind. I expressed some conservative views in this forum some time ago and was pounced on viciously and have avoided this forum for some time feeling that it is inhabited by narrow minded individuals who are no better than the bigots they openly hate.

raised conservative, I try to stay out of political debates, because all turns into wedge debates. I just look at facts, every side will tell you what ever you want too hear, Every side takes bribes and calls them donations. I'm conservative just because I dont want my guns taken away. I suffer from hallucinations due to prior drug abuse, being a gay conservative is the least of my problems.

That's an illuminating admission.

A liberal Gay or any liberal is not a hippie not sure where you came up with that.

This very liberal gay and his even more liberal gay partner work in the Finance industy our annual salary as OUT GAY EXECS is around $300,000 a year,

The majority of conservatives around the world do not support gay rights and although I too am an Atheist if there was Jesus he was the biggest flaming Liberal that ever lived.

Ok, so I just went to my History of Civilization class and we went through chapter 23, it's about "ism."

That's when I really learn about conservatism vs. liberalism
marxism
nationalism
socialism
fascism, etc

The teacher spread out platform agenda for today's political conservative and liberal. I realize, I do have a lot of similarity in conservative issue except that I'm gay, I don't believe in religion and pro choice. I agree with the rest of issue in conservative choice.

A gay with military uniform, that's me and I embrace myself thoroughly because I like what society had been set on stone before. I wish we don't change it.
I'm not a hypocrite or kissing someone's ass like many of you might think, but why many gays are totally out there liberal and crush everyone who's not support hippie way of life?

That's why my masculinity role also fix in conservative way, I think being conservative is the best way of life, Idk...

Because conservatism is about keeping things as they are, and I don't happen to like things as they are. Just ask yourself, do you want to keep the world as it is today, or even worse turn back even further? Things get better as time goes by (generally) and conservatism is not about progress. I want progress for the world, I want things to get better. I don't want to turn everything back to 1860 when 'men were men and women were women'.

Conservatism is about conserving those things are worthwhile conserving to serve the common good.

The American Revolution was inspired by, and led by conservatives who valued their English freedoms, to make their own decisions and ensure that those freedoms continued to reflect their rights as a free people.

So the environment is not worth conserving? Human rights are not worth conserving? The only things that these conservatives want to conserve is corporate dominance and the money in their bank accounts.

Are you attempting to tell us that conservative people place no value, upon the environment, or human rights? Or, are you saying that such matters are purely the preserve of people, who do not hold conservative values?

Your judgements suggest that you are confusing conservatism, with corporate fascism.

Corporate fascists are as likely to vote Democrat, as they are Republican.

Greed is not monopolised by any one political party, or ideological movement.

"Conservatism," as a political philosophy isn't about "conserving," the verb, the name is meant to imply a cautions, reasoned approach to governing. Whether that's what they are anymore is a matter of debate, and certainly they tend to be the gaurdians of the status quo, even on things like opposing equality for minorities.

This is just wrong. The freedom the colonies had under England was the freedom to do what England told them to. They didn't want to pay taxes, incidentally levied to pay for the debt incurred defending the colonies; but then England gave them no say in the decision to levy those taxes.

Most of the founding fathers were liberal humanists, "Conservatives," - or at least the closest analog of the time were calling themselves Tories and supporting King and country.

Conservatism is as much about "keeping things as they are" as progressivism is about "changing everything all the time".

Much better definition.

Sorry, but the American Revolution was a conservative revolution, the goal of which was nothing more nor less than preserving "the ancient rights of Englishmen". They were opposing a reactionary regime which wanted to roll back rights and treat Englishmen as property (as was the case on Hannover). Tories were not conservative; they were loyalist, which may or may not be conservative -- it's just loyal, usually to the institutions and slogans, regardless of content (e.g. Russians who did their best under the Soviet Union because it was what Russia was at the time, while thoroughly hating the Soviets).

No, The American Revolution may have been conservative (little c) in the sense that heads didn’t roll and there was no radical alteration of the class structure, but Conservatism as a political philosophy didn’t show up until the early to mid 1800’s, and in the US, what we call Conservatism is late 1800’s. There were no Conservatives at the time of the American Revolution.

The Tories certainly are the closest analog to what we call Conservative politically (or at least what we called Conservative 40 years ago.)

WTF?

This has nothing to do with political parties -- it has to do with being conservative.

Conservative means to conserve. The point of the American Revolution was to conserve the rights they'd had for generations. It was a conservative revolution.

Precise, and to the point.

No embroidery.

I conserve water, I'm a conservative!!!

Yeah, not so much. Say that to someone, and they'll think you're making a joke.
