Because it's a concert hall, they book in four hour blocks, and the cost varies depending on the day of the week, and the time of day.
I can book a Monday for example from 10:00AM - 2:00PM for $250; which should be plenty of time to record... provided I don't have to do a kazillion takes.
A Saturday evening from 6:00PM - 9:00PM, only three hours however, would run $500.
As I'm not "performing", yet, I'll go with sometime during the day Mon - Thurs @ the $250 rate.
As mentioned, there's a Steinway concert grand and the hall is set up for recording. I have a tentative booking for next Friday, April 8th to test drive the instrument.
I was looking at another venue, a United Church that has a Bosendorfer; they were charging $400, again for a four hour block, but the piano has been voiced too brightly for not only my persoanl aural taste, but I don't believe such a voicing would do the music justice.
And the music deserves the best instrument I can afford; and yes, I'm that picky despite not being a "real" musican; one that has no training and an inability to read well. Becuase of my lack of formal training/education, I don't associate much with other musicians either. Can't talk shop when one doesn't know the language.
I recall an aunt telling me once that there was NO possible way I could play the piano as I'd not had lessons. It took me years to feel confident enough to play in public and I'm under no illusions that my music isn't taken seriously by those trained in the art. I don't play or write for them anyway.
