I'm Pleased To Announce...

Re: I'm Pleased To Annouce...

I know several bands that have used CDBaby, and they all seem to have had good experiences. Best of luck in your recording. :)

Here ya go.

And...

However, the CD will be solo piano.

I've had many people tell me I should be writing for movies and TV. *shrug*

Mr Bit had some interesting things to say about the service and I rather trust his input. :)

Thanks for the links

I often have two browser windows open when I read through forums; one of which has multiple tabs with songs I've never listened to before (on Youtube), the other will have the forums / website I'm browsing, and I'll just play the tunes one by one as I browse.

I pressed play on "Arpeggiated Melody" and began to look through the forums, and totally forgot that I was listening to one of your pieces. I found myself really enjoying it and maximized the window with all of the Youtube tabs, to see which song was playing so I could download it; it took me a while to realize it was actually one of yours

That's some great stuff Pianist; it's really pleasant to listen to ..| (I particularly liked 'Arpeggiated Melody' and 'Christmas'). I look forward to the release of the CD.

Ahh. I just figured it out. Esnips does not play nicely with Safari. However it lies back and holds its ankles for Firefox.

I like Desert Song!

Re: I'm Pleased To Annouce...

Because it's a concert hall, they book in four hour blocks, and the cost varies depending on the day of the week, and the time of day.

I can book a Monday for example from 10:00AM - 2:00PM for $250; which should be plenty of time to record... provided I don't have to do a kazillion takes. :)

A Saturday evening from 6:00PM - 9:00PM, only three hours however, would run $500.

As I'm not "performing", yet, I'll go with sometime during the day Mon - Thurs @ the $250 rate.

As mentioned, there's a Steinway concert grand and the hall is set up for recording. I have a tentative booking for next Friday, April 8th to test drive the instrument.

I was looking at another venue, a United Church that has a Bosendorfer; they were charging $400, again for a four hour block, but the piano has been voiced too brightly for not only my persoanl aural taste, but I don't believe such a voicing would do the music justice.

And the music deserves the best instrument I can afford; and yes, I'm that picky despite not being a "real" musican; one that has no training and an inability to read well. Becuase of my lack of formal training/education, I don't associate much with other musicians either. Can't talk shop when one doesn't know the language.

I recall an aunt telling me once that there was NO possible way I could play the piano as I'd not had lessons. It took me years to feel confident enough to play in public and I'm under no illusions that my music isn't taken seriously by those trained in the art. I don't play or write for them anyway.

$250's not bad at all..... You'll get much better acoustics in the concert hall too! I had to record my rep for festivals and such and guys usually charge about 1000+, but I guess they also do multiple takes and edit it in different takes for you. I realized a little too late that a few of my music tech friends in the department, with a little arm twisting, and bribing, would have done it for free in the recording studio. :grrr:

Bosendorfers are often hit or miss, but a lot of Steinways, while constant, can be kind of dull. I've always wanted a Fazioli :3 Just try to get someone else sitting in the back listening because it sounds so much different in front of the piano than out in the concert hall. Every single sound is amplified like crazy.
