That's why I was confused. The OP made it seems as if this was a pattern.

I mean if this is the first time it's been an issue (even if its only the first time he's been asked to do something) it seems like a big rant over nothing. It makes me wonder if the guy even knew

What we're seeing is you getting upset over him bailing on you and then you saying he used to be a good friend. It sounds like he's a jerk and that it's been a one-way relationship.

You should either move on or get over it and expect it to happen again.

Be an adult. Tell him you're not happy that he let you down, but that you understand if something came up and then forget about it.

Otherwise, cool your friendship and find other friends that you can depend on.
