I remember a time before shopping malls were really what they've become now ... back before there was such a thing as halloween trick or treating in the mall.
 
I remember going to the mall for the first time, and being totally amazed that all of those stores that used to be outside (in a strip-style plaza), were now inside! (It was Greece Towne Mall, and the year was 1968! Yours truly was 5!)
 
...and what was weird to me was watching the first indoor shopping mall in our 'burg, built around 1959, get torn down in the early 80s ... a victim of shifting trends and a deteriorating neighborhood. Who tears down an entire shopping mall???

I'm so old I remember when staying up to watch Saturday Night Live, with John Belushi, Jane Curtin, Chevy Chase, & company was a rare, forbidden treat.
