I'm so old I remember............?

when being in one of those Volkswagons with the 6 volt electrical systems was a VERY cold ride, especially in January!

..... rushing home from school so I could listen to The Argonauts Club on the radio (remember Mac, Jimmy, Sue, Mr Z Man, The Muddle Headed Wombat etc?) .... I was Procrustes 7 and reached the elevated status of Golden Fleece AND Bar!!! Any other Aussies here remember that show?

I wasn't in Australia that long ago, Ozguy, but I sure was there when Kylie and Jason got married on "Neighbours"!

Watching "Bellbird" on Aunty .... and loving it!!!

"Starlost" which is quite possibly, the worst sci fi television show ever made! (circa 1970-1071)

...when I had no knowledge of "doobie" as a reference to pot and could sing the "did you ever see a doo-bee" song without giggling!

"Romper, bomper stomper boo!
Tell me. tell me ,tell me who...
Magic mirror, tell me today,
if my friends at home had
fun at play!"

"I see Ronboy, and Hotdog, and Jory! And there are my friends Bradlee and Ruby, and Arnell..."

(Miss Rita of "Romper Room" never really did see me, did she?)

...when our PBS station first got Mr. Rogers Neighborhood and I, as a very young tot, learned all the songs by heart! Then, when I was a teen-aged pup, Eddie Murphy did spoofs of Mr. Rogers and I thought I'd die laughing!

I still love watching Mr. Rogers when I'm laid up in bed ... it's so soothing!

...when Julia child made her debut on my local PBS channel, but then this was so long ago there wasn't any PBS, it was just "educational TV". :D

Rinso Laundry Detergent...My Mom used it for years along with Bold, Oxydol, Dash, Fab, All, Instant Fels, and Cheer. (She wouldn't buy Tide because it used to be hard to rinse out of the clothes)

.....a Maytag washer we had from the 50s that had an agitator that plunged up and down like a butter churn, rather than rotated like most do. It made an incredible racket and twisted the sheets into a rope!

Wringer washers! My mother and grandmother were the last women in America to switch over to automatic washers! I remember my grandmother's Lady Kenmore washer with its levers and dials. It looked kinda like the robot from "Lost in Space"! And my mother had a Maytag. I can remember when we bought it, in 1967! Both Mom and Grandma finally gave in and bought Whirlpool washers (same model, at the same time and place!) in 1972! I always remember being lectured to stay away when they had the wringers going...

Wow this thread makes me feel all warm and tingly. Nostalgic even. TV Land, here I come! I'm so old I remember Mary Janes, Squirrel Nut Zippers, Pal Gum, Chico Sticks, Chupa Chups, Whistle Suckers and Nico Wafers. We ate tons of candy. I also remember learning all about drugs and what they can do to you in the D.A.R.E. program in 6th grade. It was Drug Abuse Resistance Education. A true drug education program released by President Reagan. So when I got ready to try em, I knew what they looked like and what they can do for you. Thanks Reagan ;)
