Or maybe people are familiar with the comics and actually enjoyed a different take? That they don’t expect the movie to be a perfect adaptation?
Honestly you sound like a Grade A snob about a fictional universe.
A "perfect adaptation". Interesting If they took Darth Vader and turned him into "the good guy," you'd buy that? I suspect you are unfamiliar with Thanos. There's little point using the "different point of view argument here, for the same reasons offered above.
No, I'm one of the people whose kept Marvel in business since 1963. I have noticed, of late, their tendency to turn the nihilistic into saviors, such as Ultron. I expected to see something that would seem realistic, true to the character.
As for it being a fictional Universe, ALL fiction derives from a "fictional Universe", doesn't it? I don't expect people with no knowledge of a subject to feel anything other than 'I liked it.' How could they feel otherwise with a complete lack of knowledge. Next thing you know, a movie will be made of Hitler, claiming he was a 'misunderstood soul.' I wonder how the Jews will feel about THAT. But if wanting accuracy instead of revisionist makes a a snob, then join those who rewrite history. Perhaps you'd be interested in the Holocaust-Was-A-Hoax Club?? I mean, it seems a good fit.

Sorry, my former poster ran out of Life ...I mean time, for the corrections. Here 'tis, in all its fictional glory.

There's little point using the "different take" argument here, for the same reasons offered above. It's one thing to expose a hidden side of someone, something different to take Geoffrey Dammer or Ted Bundy and turn them into "good guys." But if you care to think me a snob, go right ahead.
Snob? No, I'm one of the people whose kept Marvel in business since 1963. I have noticed, of late, their tendency to turn the nihilistic Destroyers of Life into SAVIOURS OF THE UNIVERSE, such as they did in Avengers: Ultron. I merely point out - accurately, by the way - that this is complexly UNtrue to the character of Thanos. You are - and it is your right - from the school of "let's pretend the wolf-in-sheep's clothing ISN'T" and maintaining it's a fair way to portray someone. Like Harper Lee's manuscript, changing Atticus Finch from a noble person into a stone-cold racist. It seemed to bother only those of us over 40 (in my case, the those-over-65 club), who'd read it in school (which I suspect you did not), and were dumbfounded by the second book. Messes with our sense of morality. Well, as much as it is
your right to remain
oblivious, so 'tis mine to not have history re-written. In real life or in fictional life. An about turn on the Truth does seem to bother some of us, it is clear, even in a fictional Universe. The movie - to me - would have been more fun watching Thanos being the truly evil megalomaniac he is. Now, THAT would have been a movie worth watching! This? Pablum for the lets-see-lots-of-fisticuffs set. (Nobody could survive ONE punch from Thanos, much less 8 or 10, as he had to do to demolish Iron Man. It's like expecting the moon to hit the Earth, and the Earth remains in one piece.)
