i'm happy for you!!

i hope you have a wonderful time here in the states. :)

Are you renting a car?

10 days after the meet in Vegas sounds amazing. 'Do' LA and SoCal the first few days. I am more than positive some SoCal Jubbers will have FANTASMIC ideas.

If you have transportation, you are close to some of the most spectacular areas in the Southwest US.

Of course, being in Vegas, start with Hoover Dam.

Then the Grand Canyon. Don't miss it.

If you like to hike around, go on to Utah, hit Arches National Park.

If you have time, Mesa Verde National Park in Southwestern Colorado. Not to be missed if you like history.

Down to Phoenix and meet up with some JUBbers there.

Then back to wherever you are flying out of.

I'd invite you as far as Rocky Mountain National Park and have you crash here for free (I am 45 minutes from the east gate) but am not sure if I will be here then. Vegas to Denver is a LOOONG 1 day drive but spectacular scenery, and your trip is about the time for fall color season.

Being an Aussie you wouldn't be fazed by the distances.

However, if you are interested in RMNP, there are very cheap flights from Vegas to Denver.

Just a few ideas, I have more if needed!!!

Have a good trip!

OK, so here I go.

Please keep in mind this is PRELIMINARY and subject to change.

After the JUB meet is over and you are done with LA:

A cheap (less than $100 US) flight to Denver.

2 or 3 days in Denver (you get free lodging and a tour guide): Trip to Rocky Mountain National Park, I'll drive you all the way up to the Summit of Trail Ridge Road...over 12,000 feet above sea level. Another trip to Colorado Springs and the Garden of the Gods and the Air Force Academy.

Then I put you on the California Zephyr (the train) from Denver to San Francisco. It is a trip through unbelievable country.

The SF Jubbers can then take you to Yosemite.

You can Google any of these locations to get more info.

We MUST start the JUB tour service. :D

The trip from Denver to Sacramento leaves Denver daily at 7:15 AM and arrives in Sacramento at 3:13 PM the next day. Goes through the Moffat Tunnel, Glenwood Canyon (the Colorado River), off to Salt Lake City Utah, Donner Pass and into California. I tried to find a fare but perhaps because I'm a tad drunk it wasn't working for me.

I'll try again tomorrow. Off to bed.

You'll have to come to San Fran, 'cause I'm not going to be living in LA in September/October!

Oh no, Raven in the US

The place will never be the same ;)

I can't believe NOBODY else came up with an idea for you.

After sleeping on it, and doing a bit more quick research, here is my 2 cents. Since you don't drive, and half the fun of a trip is getting there, I'm suggesting ground travel for parts instead of being sealed up in an aluminum tube.

Monday, October 5: Hoover Dam and the Grand Canyon. Many tours from Vegas.

Tuesday, October 6: Catch a cheap flight (less than $100) Vegas to Denver. Southwest flies this route; you have to row, but it gets you there. :D

Wednesday, October 7: Rocky Mountain National Park.

Thursday, October 8: Board the California Zephyr in Denver 8AM. One way-coach fare to Emeryville, CA is $96.00. Overnight on train.

Friday, October 9: Arrive Emeryville, CA (San Francisco) around 5 PM. Party with Jubbers.

Saturday, October 10: Do San Fran. Party Sat. Night.

Sunday October 11 to Tuesday October 13: San Fran, Yosemite NP (I'm sure there are some tours to Yosemite from San Fran). Monday the 12th is a Federal holiday, so I'm sure some SF Jubbers have a 3-day weekend.

Wednesday October 14: Take the TRAIN; SF to LA. $52; a 12 hour trip down the coast.

Thursday October 15: Board plane back to Downunder. The rest of us call out the National Guard to start cleanup. :D

I endorse a trip to Denver. At night you can do the meak 4 gay bar party circuit, depending what night of the week it is.

Then come back to Sydney where the streets are laden in rainbow flags and appreciate where you live.

You forgot Tahoe

And now, for Plan B:

A day or so after Vegas is over, get a cheap plane ticket to Vancouver, BC. Buy this before you leave home.

Stay in Vancouver a couple of days, then catch a Motorcoach (Bus) from Vancouver to Seattle.

Take the Coast Starlight Amtrak train from Seattle to LA. If you travel light, you can get off at several locations: Portland, Eugene, Sacramento, San Francisco and finally LA. The service runs daily.

http://www.amtrak.com/servlet/Conte...te_Page&c=am2Route&cid=1081256321841&ssid=137
You can get the bus from Vancouver to Seattle as part of the Amtrak ticket. The ticket itself (without the bus) is about $98.

There are several bonuses to this: There are Vancouver Jubbers, there are Portland Jubbers, Seattle Jubbers, etc.

Plus you get to have your Passport stamped a few more times. :D

I went to a travel agent today and she's going to send me some ideas aswell. I'm so excited I could pee. I found a 1 day trip to Yosemite (14 hours)

And there's Denver and a day trip to Tijauna

And there's a 2 day trip from San Fran to Carmel or somewhere

Ohh and there's a walking tour of Chinatown

Ohh and I can't forget the Urban Safari Tour with extra bonus of Alcatraz tour

and and and and and

*faints*

Sounds like you're going to have a lot of fun man. Hope you make it up to SF, we can grab dinner or something while you're up there!

That's why I keep thinking about Amtrak for him. The benefit of riding is you can look out the window without running off the road.:D

I'm actually liking my idea for Plan B better than the first idea I posted; although the scenery through the Rockies is amazing (I've been through some of that).

But although I've never been, I understand the Coast Starlight is just as pretty.
