iPad Win

Sony laptops cost more than HP's. HPs cost more than Dell. Zunes cost more than Sony MP3 Walkmans. Generic-brand cookies cost less than the name brands. Do you get equally angry and call people names when they make such decisions about which devices suit their needs?
The diference between an Oreo and a chocolate chip cookie is entirely a matter of taste. They don't even compare.

Techonology does compare. a GB for Apple is a GB under any other system, paying twice as much per GB means you're not half as interested in obtaining technology as you are in obtaining a certain sense of style and prestige.

Some people also have different watches, shoes, belts, jewellery to go with their outfits. Some people paint their houses coz they get bored with the colour scheme. Personally, I own one phone that is also my music player - but I don't begrudge people who make aesthetic choices. If they have the money, let them enjoy it how they see fit. There was no evidence in the OP that suggests his iPad was purchased for style over substance: quite the opposite, he spoke specifically about its functionality. And as he said above, why are aesthetics sneered at anyway? People often buy cars, furniture, clothes, homewares, based on aesthetics. Why can't portable devices be aesthetically pleasing?
:-)

If you like based on an aesthetic level i can learn to respect that. The ONLY reason im knocking the OP is because he thinks emailing spreadsheets is a recent apple innovation lol. Im sure he'd shit himself if i showed him an Apple egg timer.

That's funny, since that's not what I said.

Of course you also claimed I asked your opinion, which I also didn't do.

You seem to make a lot of shit up, and claim to look forward to people committing suicide.

Psycopath much?

Strawmen. You were impressed with the most basic of computer functions.

Of course you also claimed I asked your opinion, which I also didn't do.
No, you asked :
why that provokes a douchey attitude on your part.
and I answered. But you didn't like said answer so you ignored the fact that you provoked my reaction in the first place as you continue to provoke my replies even though you claim to not care what i say on the subject.

You fanboys are the ones offing themselves over lost Ipods lol. And yes, if fanboys could collectively dispose of themselves, we might have a consumer electronics sector that focuses more on substance rather than style.

Strawmen. You were impressed with the most basic of computer functions.

Nonsense on two points.

1. That is not what a strawman is.
2. I was not impressed by email. I was pleased that I was able to (in a meeting where I wouldn't have whipped out a laptop) process an email with a device that was in a nice little binder in my bag, no bigger than a paper notebook I would have typically used.

No, you asked...

If I asked there would have been a question mark at the end of the sentence. That's how you'd know it was an "ask", if it were one.

Whatever anti-social disorder you have has resulted in you thinking people are asking you for input when in fact they are not.

LOL ok you know what? eventhough you supposedly don't give a shit what i think, yet keep talking to me... ill make it so simple, that even an Apple user can understand...: I don't give a shit what you think; of me, of technology, whatever. I won't bother answering you or this thread anymore.

You're right. Some people are prepared to pay more for a quality, creamier cookie. And some people are prepared to pay more for an always-on 10" tablet device with great battery life and an OS built specifically for touch. Especially since there is only one device on the market today that meets that criteria.

Techonology does compare. a GB for Apple is a GB under any other system, paying twice as much per GB means you're not half as interested in obtaining technology as you are in obtaining a certain sense of style and prestige.

Like I said above, you're measuring the device by its GBs and USB ports, rather than its usability and functionality. Most users don't care what the tech IS, they care what the tech DOES and how easily and reliably it does it.

You should re-read the OP - he didn't say anything like that.

How would a netbook or laptop function in a meeting where you have to stand in front of a crowd and discuss live data off multiple spreadsheets? You'd what, balance the netbook in one palm while moving your other hand between the trackpad and keyboard, trying not to unbalance the netbook, and all the while trying to absorb the figures on several pages of data? Nightmare scenario.

A tablet, on the other hand, is perfect - hold in one hand like a clipboard, change pages and scroll with your finger. Then, once your done, make some notes and email them without even needing to find a chair.

It's a perfect example of a beneficial difference between a netbook/notebook and a touch-controlled tablet.

Lol @ geek war. I think that was won a long time ago. We're the ones jailbreakin' your iPhones and flashing your iPod's firmwares.

Im sorry though if my comments have negatively affected anyone's sense of iDentity.

The geek war as put it will have no end. Apple will keep making modifications to stop jail breaking, and hackers will keep finding ways to work around it and jail break the product. I have no problem with that, Apple does. I firmly believe that once we pay for a device it is ours to do with as we please, unfortunately that is not the case thanks to the wonderful creation of law called the DMCA. Anytime any type of digital security is bypassed your essentially breaking the law regardless of your reasons for doing so.

I haven't found that you have negatively affected me in anyway. I'm just amazed at how much anger/hate you seem to need to vent over a guy basically saying that his iPad is a good device and met his expectations.

I will also have you know that I only own 1 apple product, and the ironic part is I didn't buy it. It was a gift that I never said I wanted, but it does what I need to so no point in returning it. It was an iPod classic (believe thats 5th gen if you care). BTW no need to flash its firmware. I don't need any special functions, it plays music and pod casts for me when I need it.

Which always makes me wonder. Just looking at the number of cracked/jailbroken iWhatevers .. why the fuck do people support and pay a company like blind zealots if they don't agree with their politics? One more reason for me to call it a lifestyle product .. something that most people just "want" to have.

:rotflmao: You know its funny, I only glanced at the title and read it as 60% of all iPhones pirated lol. Glad I took a second look. I stopped trying to understand sheeple after I worked in retail, it always ends up with the ideas going in circles.

For what its worth, keep in mind people will follow whatever famous people do. So you get celebrities on board with the newest thing, and everyone has got to have it. :(

Like I said before the only Apple product I own is an iPod Classic, that I didn't even buy. lol I personally have no interest in the iPhone, between it being stuck on At&t and Apples grip on what you can and can't do on it doesn't meet my needs. I use a Blackberry Storm it suits my needs for the moment, but I will admit when its time for a new phone I'm thinking of switching to an Android based phone depending on what RIM has out at the time.

I suppose because they feel like they're paying for the product rather than the politics. That's the geek vs user thing again. I think others enjoy the game.

My neighbor hates MS and Apple because of their policies and practices. Hates, hates, hates. His wife just wants a computer she understands, and though she thinks her husband is theoretically right, it doesn't matter more than her desire to have a computer she likes and understands.

I've been tempted in the past to jail break my iPhone, but not enough to get serious about it. But I'm a pretty risk-averse person.

^ I think I found something from your neighbor

but back to topic .. yeah .. all this apple geeks buying their iPad and stuffs .. it's clearly NOT a lifestyle choice .. right?

I present you:

http://cupidtino.com/

money quote:

Cupidtino is a beautiful new dating site created for fans of Apple products by fans of Apple products! Why? Diehard Mac & Apple fans often have a lot in common – personalities, creative professions, a similar sense of style and aesthetics, taste, and of course a love for technology. We believe these are enough reasons for two people to meet and fall in love, and so we created the first Mac-inspired dating site to help you find other Machearts around you.

:rotflmao:

:rotflmao: this was one of the funniest anti-Apple rants
I've ever read.

Most of that stuff is true, but I would still
love to own one..:-)

My favs:
  • It makes you look like an egotistical shithead. Look at me and my shiny metal touchscreen notebook. I rock. My hair is shinier than yours. I know because I’ve been staring at my reflection for the last three hours. I have really pretty eyes. That’s what people will think you’re thinking when all you’re doing is trying to get online.
  • You need a handbag to carry it around. Girl.

aw shit i wasn't sposed to post here n-e more lol. (sparing ppl the trouble of pointing it out)

But don't forget to sync otherwise you'll have to re-purchase the same app on all your devices! :p

Originally they weren't even gonna include one USB port, but Steve Jobs realized his fanboys wouldn't get laid if they had nowhere to plug in their USB-dildos. ;)

Gentlemen, many of you are old enough to remember college. Here's what I see as the future: instead of having to lug around those horribly heavy textbooks, students will be able to DL all their textbooks in digital form onto an iPad (or a non-Apple equivalent). He'll write his email, surf the web, send in all of his assignments, and even make phone calls on this notepad. There will be one or two ports on the side of the notepad for peripherals, for the occasions that he needs to print something, for example.

Can you imagine: all of your textbooks in one rather small notepad?

I see this as the future for students. It doesn't really matter if Apple makes the products or not.

Screw college (never brought books to class, never needed actually). Go back to f*cking high school, those wonderful teachers almost everyone of them required the textbook almost every day. I would have loved to have an iPad loaded with my books instead of the physical books. Would have made taking public transit alot easier too.

Hmm...I wonder...maybe later on we'll see notebooks that function like the slider phones as well as notebooks right now? Meh, I don't know how that would work haha.

Anyway, you do have a valid point.

If my kids could get everything on an iPad now, as you describe, I'd buy them this minute.

Even though they both have laptops in school for school use, and we're very connected at home, they still have huge backpacks full of books.
