Iraq or Mexico: Who Threatens America More?

I agree, we do need migrant workers. The problem doesn't just come from migrant workers though, it's the unbelievable economic problems that crop up with rampant illegal immigration (from any country).

This was originally about who threatens more, Iraq or Mexico, so the discussion was focused on that, hopefully with the understanding that without Iraqi's and Mexican's in the picture the U.S. wouldn't face any problems with people from other countries in the world.

I see what you're saying. When I think of migrant workers I think of the people who come to pick crops etc. and not all of them stay (and a certain # of migrants ARE legal). When I think of the problems that illegals present I think of the ones who come here in droves, live in overcrowded conditions and suck off the system without contributing to it at all. That's my big problem.

Regarding the use of the term Americans:
The Thirteen Colonies were the first to throw off the yoke of colonialism and named itself the United States of America. We have first claim to the term American, since we were the first independent country to use the name. We have called ourselves America for centuries and so has everyone else.
What would be the other options? United Statesians. That's about on par with United Kingdomians or Soviet Unioners.
Holland is both the name of a country and one of its' provinces, the Dutch and (everyone else) don't seem to have a problem making the distinction. Nor does anyone object to the Netherlands (even though Belgium is a lowland country too).
Tibetans don't refer to themselves as Chinese.
People have always referred to the "New World" as the Americas and to the first residents as "Native Americans".
Does anyone think other countries in this hemisphere really want to trade "Brazilian", "Argentinian" or of their own names to be called "American?" So if no one else want's to use it anyway, what's the problem with us using it?
One would have to be a dullard or a simple America hater to take exception to or misunderstand the term.

^ I think you guys are being paranoid... hating Americans for calling themselves Americans?? Never heard of such thing...

Ok, then why the comments pointing out America is not just the U.S.? The tone of those comments wasn't exactly educational in nature.

... Sounds pretty educational to me ...

In this thread yes, that comment wasn't snide. I was speaking in general as to some of the posts I've seen throughout this board on varying threads where the term "america" is used.
