Some of the frot advocates say this, but i reckon if a bottom doesn't feel demasculated, then what's the problem?

It's about as degrading as you make it. I think pro-frotters who espouse this belief just have some serious hang ups about their own masculinity. To me, bottoming is just a way to make sex work and it feels great and I'm in it for the pleasure.

The top can be in control, I can be in control, or we can be equals, depending on what we want to do or what we're into.

...And I don't think anyone was stating that the ancient Greeks are the authority, only noting that the concept isn't new or relegated to pro-frotters but has also been espoused by a large culture in history, so I don't know where you got that.
 
What many of those advocates won't admit to is what their attitude says about women. The bottom role associated with the "feminine" persona shows that their greatest fear isn't being thought of as "gay," but as "womanly."

The fact of being a bottom is not in itself degrading if that is where you want to be.
If the top is doing or saying things while topping you that you figure are degrading.... then yeah, it would make you feel so.

Back when I was first studying Hinduism, my professor was attempting to explain the concept of "purity" and "impurity" to us. He brought in a potted flower and showed it to us. "This flower is growing in some soil," he pointed out. He then reached into the pot, pulled out some of the soil, and tossed it onto the table around which we all sat. "Now," he said, "it's not soil. It's dirt."

He then asked me (as I was sitting next to him), "Are you wearing socks?" I told him I was. "How do they fell?" I told him they felt fine. "Good. Would you take off your socks and hand them to the student next to you?" Not surprisingly, the student next to me cringed and said, "Ew, no, thanks."

The point was this. Purity isn't simply a matter of being clean or unclean. It also has a lot to do with "things being in their place". In the Hindu caste system, an "untouchable" in the palace is like a woman dressed for a formal occasion taking off her underwear and placing it on her head.

And I think there's a trace element of "purity" involved when people get weirded out about anal sex. The bottom is the one that gets the lion's share of the scorn, for three reasons.

1. He's using his ass as a sexual organ. This upsets the "purity" of the ass as being "for sitting and shitting". It's not (just) that people think asses are dirty - it's that whole "things being in their proper place". Or, in this case, "things being used for their intended use".
2. He's (often) NOT using his dick as a sexual organ, thus challenging the "guys get off by having their dicks rubbed" belief.
3. As suggested in other posts, the "purity" of man-on-woman sex is being challenged. The bottom, who is "supposed" to be a woman, is a man.

This also explains why the top doesn't get as much grief. Yeah, he's sticking his dick in an ass. But he's not really the one messing with the paradigm. He's still the "top", the man, the inserter, the guy getting off by sticking his dick into something. That doesn't take as much mental agility to accept.
