My hypothesis is that even the most openminded straights would rather not think about anal sex.
Quite a few of my straight friends have tried or would try it. And even those that wouldn't don't go EWWWW at the thought of anal sex. My personal experience of course.
Ultimately is there anything we can do besides saying "get over it?"
Yes, we can be visible. People should realise that there's lots of us, in all areas of life. At the same time, we can continue to show the world that being gay is not weird, disgusting or wrong. That our love is as valid as theirs. Swaying public opinion is a slow process, but I think we will achieve it. We've come a long way already.
