Is Canada better than the United States?

I wouldn't agree that Americans are "useful idiots", but I have wondered about your question before. I would be more enticed by Canada if it had warmer weather though.

Canada is generally superior to the US because almost all of it lies north of almost all of the US. Of course, that conclusion depends upon the very common conflation of moving in a northernly direction with 'up' (which, on Earth, is, as a rule of thumb, defined as moving away from the Earth's center of gravity).

So what you're saying is that Canadians can fly?

That is really all we have in common with Americans. We're more secular, political system is different, weather for the most part is different, foreign relations are completely different, rights and freedoms are different, domestic issues are different, social attitudes are different, banking is different, immigration policies are different...the list goes on.

It's funny how Americans/Canadians are deemed so connected when in actuality we're quite different from one another. Remember Canadians, you aren't Americans...the United States of America is really a foreign country, folks.

I ask because the older I get, the more I feel like I have nothing in common with the majority of Americans. I tend to agree with the global view that Americans are "useful idiots."

Just my 2¢:

Same and different. I find that Canada is more multicultural where people keep their cultural identities a little more. America is more of a big melting pot where people conform.


My background: I have lived in the large metropolitan cities in Canada & I have lived in large metropolitan cities in the US.

My best advice is to stop thinking about countries and borders as they are. Think regionally instead.

that was an understatement. a lot of canadians don't like the united states, and feel that they are superior to them (and i'm sure the same can be said for a lot of americans in relation to the rest of the world), which is ironic, considering we are highly dependent on them (i know, it works both ways) and we're affected by a lot of their actions.

I am Canadian, but I love the US. Mostly because everything is so inexpensive. Plus the people are great. At least most the ones I have met and I have met lots of people. One day, I hope to retire in either the NE or NorCal. When I say retire, I say that with a grain of salt since I am in my mid-teens. Maybe by that time, I there will not be such a thing as retirement. Who knows. Either way, both countries have their pros and cons. I just hope that we can focus on the pros and not the cons.

my whole life, and if it weren't for school there would be no way in hell i'd be here. i don't think it has anything going for it, except the scenery. i don't see how someone could consider vancouver to be anywhere near the tier of new york city.

Actually we do have a different culture. People just are not aware of it so much. And what is wrong with the weather? Vancouver is perfect and even now has palm trees in some parks.

But for the Most part we are much easier going and more able to care for those in our society in needs after all wasn't it the Reagan administration who labeled us all SOCIALTISTS.

better in what respect? you really cannot compare a 300+ million country to a small country like Canada. its my observation that pretty every small country or large of European descent are pretty socialized compared to the USA.

and yes things are less expensive in the US compared to canada and the uk, etc. i mean we have people coming down here all the time to buy stuff, use our airports, etc.

I don't know - I think Canadian culture, for the most part, is dead. The Canadian identity is merely an absence of any identity, which makes it extremely unique and different from America...or any other country in the world for the most part.

There will come a time I feel where Canadian children won't be familiar with Canadian icons of yesteryear due to increased globalization/Americanization.

I'm more interested in Toronto if we're talkin' Canada.

I met some members of the Canadian Air Force the other day, it was so cool! America is still [backwards] with some things, it's like living back in the bad ol' Puritan days.
