Is Elon Musk in Trouble?

WASHINGTON (Reuters) -U.S. auto safety regulators said on Friday they have opened an investigation into whether Tesla's recall of more than 2 million vehicles announced in December to install new Autopilot safeguards is adequate following a series of crashes...

Well, that would be no.

So, Tesla recalled basically every Tesla in the country a few months ago to fix the autopilot, which was crashing cars into things. Now, the fixed cars are crashing into things.

How very Elon.

And yet the board of Tesla is asking for approval to give him a 47 billion dollar payday.

Tesla’s move this week to lay off much of the team responsible for creating the largest and most successful electric-vehicle charging network in the U.S. threw the industry into a state of shock and confusion...

So, here's what I think: Elon has correctly reasoned that if no one can charge their cars, their cars won't be crashing people into things.

PROBLEM SOLVED!

Unless, of course, you own Tesla stock. If he keeps this up, he won't be able to afford his hobby, fake Twitter. I wonder how much money he's lost to stock devaluation over the past two years.

This all makes the move by the board to give Musk a huge payday almost inexplicable.

Apparently, the Board is full of Elon Fanboys. If my memory serves, the stockholders have sued to stop any attempt to pay off Elon pending review, the Judicial kind. I don't have the article in front of me, but I think they are claiming that any such payment would constitute a breach of the Board's fiduciary duty, which might be criminal if it was allowed.

I'll see if I can find that.
