Is Elon Musk in Trouble?

Elon Musk was denied clearance for a National Security background check due to his connections with Russia and admitted drug use.

Tell us again how Elon and Trump were not working with Putin to overthrow our election?

And the unelected Musk is now dictating which bills are to be passed by Congress.

And the bill is bleeding Republican support as Musk's Xit hit the fan yesterday.

So what he has effectively shown is that the exexutive branch will totally dictate to Congress by using the richest man on earth to threaten politicians with unemployment.

And that a feckless and spineless Congress will capitulate.

Seen today:

So a bunch of shidiots said they were voting for an “America first man of the people” because he was “strong on the economy” but what they got was a foreign born billionaire who’s shutting our government down & crippling our economy at Christmas when it will hurt THEM the most.
Do I have that right?

And Adam Kinzinger:

"President Musk made it clear with all his vast government experience, which is basically he became rich on the federal government, that he doesn't want Republicans to pass this, and seemingly Vice President Trump kind of backed him up."

Today's rumor: the House Freedom Caucus is floating Elonia as Speaker of the House.

President Elon vs President Trump. Why does neither of these things reassure me?

They will reconcile this.

But at the moment, this hour, this day, there is the possibility of a rift that could be the undoing of Trump? or Musk?

There is definitely panic in the backrooms at the moment.

They will be trying to walk this back....but again, the Dems have zero incentive to dig Mikey and the GQP out of the absolute mess they ahev made of this.

Washington norms have been deteriorating since Gingrich but one thing that has remained is that when a deal is made, everyone sticks to what they agreed upon.

Until the bipartisan immigration deal earlier this year... after Trump got involved.

This time, there was a bipartisan agreement on a CR and a Farm Bill... until Trump and Elon got involved.

Somehow I don't think the Dems are going to take Johnson at his word again.

...Somehow I don't think the Dems are going to take Johnson at his word again.
CNN brought up a valid point: Republicans tried to can Mike Johnson in April when MTG filed a floor motion to recall the Speaker. Democrats saved his ass.

This time, Democrats say that they're done with Johnson.

For Democrats, trust is broken with Speaker Johnson, ushering in a new era on the hill
In May, Speaker Mike Johnson needed Democrats to save his job. They did it.

But now Democrats say they are through helping Johnson manage his unruly caucus after the speaker killed a bipartisan agreement to keep the government funded through March at the behest of President-elect Donald Trump.

“I think that we’re all very disappointed. I mean again, your currency here is your word,” Rep. Richard Neal, the top Democrat on the House Ways and Means Committee said.

The last 48 hours have gone a long way to unravel what had been a cordial and oftentimes fruitful relationship between Johnson and his Democratic counterpart Hakeem Jeffries. The two had found ways to keep the government funded, passed a massive defense policy bill, increased US aid to Ukraine and secured Johnson’s speakership from the far right wing of his party. What Jeffries had found in Johnson was a partner who he did not always agree with, but came to trust.

Now, Democrats say that has been shattered.

“Listen, we had a deal. We had a deal that was negotiated. It was a bipartisan deal, and they’re the ones who walked away from it. Not us. And you know, keep your word and he’s gotta learn that” Rep. Susie Lee, a Democrat from Nevada said.

Of course, depsite his own sense of unassailability...Musk's actions are drawing actual scrutiny now.

From the Politico article:
But among the 100-plus tweets Musk sent Wednesday were a number of misleading or outright false claims — a worrying start to the mogul’s new role as co-leader of a Trump-blessed effort to slash government funding.

Musk is burning bridges. If this goes to a shutdown (and it looks like it will), shit-canning DOGE's report will probably be the retribution for Musk's actions this week. Lesson learned: Musk might be good at picking companies to buy but he has no political skills to work in a place like Washington.

Musk has gotten away with a lot of stuff- like massive layoffs in 2024 from X, Tesla, Supercharger and his other companies - because his stock price was much higher than the value of his company. Government doesn't ignore childish, impetuous behavior in the way that private industries might.

In a normal world. a President might be willing to burn political capital to fix this problem. In MAGA-world, Musk will likely get relegated to the back bench where he and Trump will duke it out over their personal social media platforms (which the media needs to stop covering as if they are valid media).

Murdoch outlets are going after Musk (bolding added by me):

The sheer callousness of Elon’s attitude, regarding this nightmare scenario, is galling to an extent almost beyond words.

This is a person who seems to care more about adulation from the sewers of the internet than how his actions affect people in their real lives.

He’s a guy who ignores information from official sources, but believes whatever patently nonsensical crap shameless rage-baiters and engagement farmers like LibsofTikTok, Catturd, or EndWokeness tweet at him.

And all of a sudden he is the guy dictating government policy, and dictating to Congress, and overriding the person he spent more than $US200 billion to get elected as president.

This situation is not sustainable. The political right loves to rant about unelected bureaucrats, the so-called “deep state”, making policy. Here we have an unelected billionaire, with a long list of vested interests, haranguing Congress into following his whims and impulses.

It’s hard to imagine Mr Trump putting up with this interference, from Elon, for long. In his mind, he’s already rewarded the man for his financial support, by appointing him to co-lead a new government department aimed at cutting waste.

Mr Trump did not pick him to be co-president.

One of the real problems for Trump is that he now has to polish this turd.

He can't come out and admit that allowing Musk to be the President and in charge of policy was a mistake...he likely has a lot of Republican heavy hitters telling him what a disaster this move was and to get Musk out of their faces.

Meanwhile:

They are in trouble for securities reporting violations, so if you are wondering what Musk's plan is while acting as President, it is likely to get a pardon as well as personally profitting off the chaos he is causing.
