  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

IS JUB over?

I've spent years here and yet it seems that recently the life has gone outta JUB.

Are its best years ahead of it, or behind it?

I think what you're describing happens with pretty much everything that's 'community based'. What gives JUB its 'life' are the people who frequent it, and how they interact with each other. (I'm assuming that) In the beginning, the forums were a much more friendly, intimate place.

The same thing happens with most communities; as they grow, the general atmosphere changes. It shifts from a small family of members, where it's more personalized and everyone knows each other - to a larger, more impersonal community wherein you're more likely to get baited or flamed by people you don't even know, and who don't even know you. Also, as HoodedRat pointed out, people will be less inclined to share the more personal aspects of themselves to such a large number of [STRIKE]strangers[/STRIKE] people. So it can feel like much less of a 'warm', friendly place.

That being said, there's tonnes of friendly, awesome people at JUB now - maybe it's just a little harder to find them these days?

I'm new around these parts, so to me; JUB is JUB, and the people who are active now, are the people who have always been active. When you've been around for a lot longer though, many of the people who were around years ago have moved on; nostalgia kicks in and you think back to all of the awesome people who aren't around anymore, and that can detract from the current 'experience' of the community.

Whether JUB's best years are ahead of it, or behind it, is subjective. Someone who didn't enjoy the experience years ago could decide to come back tomorrow, and could comment on how much the community has grown and how amazing that is.

Perhaps you're not getting out of JUB what you used to, and that could be due to a change in the community, or in yourself, who knows?

For me though, the best years of JUB most certainly lie ahead ..|

Two things.

One, as others have mentioned, JUB seems to ebb and flow. It seems there are days when all the topics are petulant arguments, discussions about pop culture items I know nothing about, and sexual banter that's leaves me as firm as a month-old banana. At times like this, if I have nothing to add, the smart move is simply not to add anything. Eventually, the ship seems to right itself.

Second, and more to the point (and a bit ironic considering where I'm posting this), is something I call the Hot Topic argument. Find yourself a 17- or 18-year-old punkish kid, and ask him what he thinks of Hot Topic stores. Chances are good he'll say something along the lines of "It used to kick ass, but it's gotten all tired and commercial." The fact is - Hot Topic has always been a (tired and) commercial enterprise, existing in malls across the country, and catering to the 16-year-old punk of all ages. If you're now finding Hot Topic to be tired and commercial, it isn't because the store changed. It's because YOU changed.

JUB is what it's always been, more or less. If something changed, 9, it's likely you. You've been here often enough and seen enough that it eventually looks boring and overly familiar. It's certainly happened to me. And when it does, I don't blame JUB. I just assume I've seen enough for now. And I step away. Sometimes for a couple days. Sometimes, like this last time, for several months. I don't delete my account or go out in a blaze of glory - I'm not interested in that. I'm aware that I'll probably give it another go at some point, and if I decide I'm interested again, I'll start posting again.

As a newbie I must say that I consider JUB as a wonderful forum. It seems to me much much more tolerant that others, and there are loads of interesting people to "meet" and read.
If you think older times where much more fun, that were surely a wonder to behold :)

O tempora, O mores

JUB is definitely not what it used to be, nor will what it becomes be like it is today. Is that a "bad thing", though?

I've been around"here" for nearly 7yr. (I think). The membership has changed, I have changed, and things around me have changed. However, at it's core, JUB is still a daily "touch point" for me. And, other than the current news cycle, we're still talking about the same "old" topics, just with different people. "The more things change, the more they stay the same."

Generally, I usually have no idea what specific forum I'm in. I find new threads, like this one, through "New Posts" after I've caught up with my subscriptions. And, now, this thread has been added to those, too. Sometimes I even wonder into CE&P! :help:

I honestly think that JUB will continue to be around for quite a long time to come. (At least I HOPE so!) This truly is a rather unique "place" on "The Inter-Webs"! ..|

Yes! There is a certain "ebb and flow". But, just like Wisconsin weather, if you're not happy with what's happening right now, just wait a bit, and it will change. \:/

Here's to a wonderful JUB Future! (group)

SO, Yeah! ... no matter what ...

Keep smilin'!!(*8*)

Best days...behind it (for me at least) Not too much of interest on here anymore. Hot topics was the draw for me and that is pretty played out...and I get my actual porn on much better sites.

Alley was ever so much more fun before he got 'partnered'

I suspect his needs and priorities have undergone a serious

series of modifications. Sad, but, perhaps it is his best days

that are behind him.

I often think of leaving and letting this archaic monstrosity dry up

and fade into memory...then I realize there are still a few old farts

here that need the stimulation and attention. How does one quell

the savage beast and satisfy them as well?

Hey, JUB is still performing a public service... look at what it keeps off

the street and internet. EH?

When I leave JUB will be over forever...

JUB is nothing without my squealing....

*squeals with delight*

I love your squealing

I've joined JUB about 2 years ago and I'm glad I did. I've found some really nice and friendly people. Some days I enjoy it more than others but I fucking love this site.

I honestly never pay attention to any of that stuff. Here or other places at where it is said. I kind of have a small network of places i check up on every now and then, see what i find intresing or say whats on my mind and leave it as that. I honestly just scam over thread topics and leave it as that,

Hey, I still *heart* JUB... ..|

My opening post in this thread was prompted, initially, by visits to Fun & Games. It seemed to me that the "fizz" was gone there. Posts to even the most popular games seemed to be going unanswered for hours, even days. I'm sure that the guys there are bored with some of the games, some newer members maybe haven't discovered that place yet, warmer weather is beckoning, etc. etc..

As for the rest of JUB, I still find myself dropping in almost daily. Maybe not sticking around as much as I used to. And, as others have pointed out, it can seem repetitive to anyone who has been a member for years and years. At least, it seems so to me.

One thing that's changed in my behavior is that I go to the porn galleries more, while in the past I almost never did. The forums were a bigger draw than the porn. Today, not so much...

The sense of fun and personal interaction is less.

We used to have such a good balance of frivolous with serious topics. Neither alone could have sustained the place, but together they made JUB a fun place to be.

My sentiments exactly.

The porn star Jasun, why he isn't posting ?

I asked him via xtube. I was surprised he responded. He said, "Left altogether. Just got annoying that every time I posted anything, my stalkers would charge in and attack me." He said his assistant posts updated information from the studios every now and then, but they've been busy lately. His username on xtube is JasunMark. I guess you have to wait for him to post more youtube videos if you want your dose of Jasun :P

I'm in the same boat as Alley. I used to be on JUB twice a day for hours. Now...once or twice a week or less. JUB really needs to bring back the chat room.
