I've spent years here and yet it seems that recently the life has gone outta JUB.

Are its best years ahead of it, or behind it?

It might be a lull, or just that there are so many other places to interact...

That is interesting you say that because the message board has grown considerably in the past year. It has gone from somewhere around the 405th largest message board to the current position of 333 and still growing.

Well,

I never thought I would feel like a senior citizen here 9ofC

but the complexion certainly seems to have changed...

I'm watching and waiting. Seems like a lot of for rent signs

are popping up in the neighborhood........:(

Lots of new members join and then leave, much bigger turnround than in yesteryear! Miss the 'old' faces and JUB does not have the same 'clubby' feeling! In life things move on , particularly on the Net!

JUB sure has changed through the years, I don't think it's really over just that new members come and they kind of change the atmosphere.

Kind of like how Nickelodeon use to have kick ass TV shows in the 90's then when 2000 approached all the shows just went to shit and you no longer seen those good shows anymore.

I feel the same as BiMike on this one.

So many of my JUB buddies that I made back in the first few years of JUB's life have now either cancelled their membership or no longer post on the boards .... and I miss them! :(

I still enjoy logging into JUB at least once a day to see what's going on, but I feel far less inclined to actually interact with members in the forums now.

I guess I'm just the proverbial old dog who can't learn new tricks.

I think it's just that JUB has now grown so big it's maybe lost the gentleman's clubby old-friends-gathering-for-a-drink-and-a-natter that it maybe used to have. I find I have to do more filtering now, but hey - I'm still here! What's not to like!

I only tend to hang around the candyfloss and fluff that is HT.

I don't doubt there is still loads of value in the specialised sub-forums here, but I think there are more days now than previously where I simply skim HT and bail without reading or responding to whatever is deemed H at the time. I hope it's just a case of ebb and flow but much of it seems completely arbitrary and random to me.

Also seems strange to me that at 5 years of membership I have way more JUB experience but often less than half the posts of the current crop of A-listers who seem to be doing all the talking in here. I don't want to say things about empty vessels, but I do wonder sometimes...

That is why it has changed. There are so many more people here now compared to 5+ years ago that it is much harder to keep up with what is going on.

Strange though; Hot Topics (the only sub-forum I bother with) tends to move much slower than it has done in the past. I remember the days when I logged on in the morning and there were 3 pages of threads to catch up with, nowadays the new posts in threads rarely seem to reach the bottom of the first page.

I think that when there were fewer people it was more intimate and friendly; I certainly wouldn't dream of sharing anything important or personal here nowadays like I have done in the past.

No, it isn't. It is constantly changing though and never exactly how it was one year ago.
Either you go with the flow .. or at some time your interest fades and others take your place.

This is not the first thread like this, and certainly not the last. I would guess you should have seen a few similar threads in your time here ;)

I continue to harness value from the very specifically selected posts that I read each day. It matters not that there are fewer people posting, nor that very many posts are rather banal.

I specifically identify particular posters for their inspiring, and educational contributions even when not agreeing with their opinion.

I continue to learn much of great value to me when reading posts on this site.

I typed a super long post for this thread but being the fucking spastic retard I am, I clicked one of the goddamn motherfucking tabs on the stupid webthingpageshit and it all disappeared. I was pouring my heart out, Mozilla!

Fuck it, it has totally ruined the moment for me.

So yeah, erm, you know whatever. The good ol' days.

Am I considered part of the Old Guard yet? Or am I the New Old Guard?

When threads like this one gets created, I want to talk about the good ol' days but I must be like really old at JUB, like Garden of Memories kinda old to make any comment.

The weather has been breaking, so we aren't all shut ins anymore. It's nice to get outside and enjoy the day than being behind the keyboard. That's part of it.

Here's a hint JUB: sex sells. Add porn to your website/forum and see the site hits grow :)

I hate when that happens :(

I never really noticed the flow of JUB the time I've been here, but then again, I've only been active recently. But JUB is definitely constantly getting new members. I was part of an online blog community. For the longest time it seemed like only 5 of us would keep in touch while the other 20 people went off and bid farewell. A few of the 20 came back, but by then I left, and I took my blogging to facebook...where it ended. JUB is definitely faring better than other online communities I've been to.

JUB has a lot to offer compared to the past forums I've been on, so I think it'll continue to grow.

For those of us who have been here any period of time, I think the JUB of old is over. The sense of fun and personal interaction is less. The new members come and go so quickly and seem so needy. They take but seldom give back. Many, many days go by where the forums have little of interest in which to post.

We used to have such a good balance of frivolous with serious topics. Neither alone could have sustained the place, but together they made JUB a fun place to be.
