Is Pokemon Go still a 'thing'?

Re: Pokemon Go is an accident or worse waiting to happen

What I find most amusing is the same people that bashed video games when they first came out for keeping kids indoors are now bashing video games for taking kids outdoors.

Re: Pokemon Go is an accident or worse waiting to happen

I can't see myself battling and evolving them, but could be ocd enough to want to collect them all.

That's about the only thing I could do, hunt them down. Forget about battling, that involves actual visual screen usage of tiny print. But I can really see myself collecting - if I had that kind of phone, that is. I kinda want to get one just for the hunting-shit-down aspect.

Wait, does it have arrows? I'd need arrows. Arrows and a time limit. Or do you actually have to physically chase it down while trying to see a phone once you're in a general area? Because that's a bit out of my league. And by 'a bit' I really mean ice cube's chance in hell.

There aren't arrows, but there are tells that hint direction. Not sure how obvious they'd be to vision challenged people. When you do get close enough, they show up on camera.

If they show up when you're close enough I can stand to do some extra footwork until colorful blurs appear. I appreciate collections. Means I'm gonna need to borrow the roomie's phone though. Or upgrade, provided it talks. I'd think they'd all talk? But the pc trainer swears by Apple and everything's been shrinking for regular phones, buttons and text on down seems like. Should prolly look into accessibility. Ugh.

Re: Pokemon Go is an accident or worse waiting to happen

My friend show me that game a few days ago. I love him to death but he drove me crazy, when we was on the boardwalk and he was on his phone during the whole trip. I was like wtf. I downloaded it and played with it for a little i didn't see the excitement behind it and adding another distraction to my life so i deleted it.

This game is no different then being on snap chat or texting while driving or walking. I don't know how many times people are driving fast on the highway making snap chat videos with the speed limit on it.

Re: Pokemon Go is an accident or worse waiting to happen

Over the weekend, I read an article about a police station warning Pokemon hunters not to search inside the police station. There are reports of hunters taking pictures of private property, hunters searching in houses of worship, graveyards, museums, libraries, and even hospitals where hunters have been discovered in restricted areas.

Just Google it and you'll see how out-of-hand it's getting already. People are trespassing, and they don't seem to give a damn.

Uh-huh. Cuz no one's kids ever trespassed before the age of video games, right?

GET OFF MY LAWN!!!

Minus the hospital and police station, the rest are generally public, I'd think. Take a graveyard, for instance. I could wander around one for hours (and have before). Just don't interrupt others' services and visits and you're generally fine. You can't do that in a hospital or police station, it's one of those specific business-or-nothing places. Dunno how well people are at obeying those common sense & courtesy laws, though.

Re: Pokemon Go is an accident or worse waiting to happen

^ The problem with people's houses is that it is private property, and people wandering around the property are legally trespassing. Even worse, they are taking photos and neighbours and homeowners are calling the police because they believe someone is 'scoping out the house'. One teen has already been shot dead:

The deceased teenager’s friend reports that Arthur first circled the residence, triggering security lights as he attempted to get the Pokemon to appear. He then walked into an enclosed back porch of the residence, and when it still did not appear he started checking windows on the house and attempted to open them.

Homeowner Ellen Jones, a 67-year-old widow who lived by herself in the home, was awoken by the sound of someone trying to open her bedroom window. She then armed herself with a 9mm pistol that had belonged to her deceased husband. She then went to use the telephone to call emergency services where she was surprised by the teenager attempting to gain access to the home through an unlocked kitchen window. The widow panicked and shot at the teen twice, striking him both times.

There is no common sense (or common courtesy) where this game is concerned. The players seem to think they have the right to go where they want and do what they want.

I don't think there's actually been anyone entering a police station. The only thing I ever read that sounded even remotely like that was from Facebook post by some police department in Australia that got designated as a PokeStop, and they were letting people know they didn't have to go into the station to use it. They never said anyone did, and considering that post, which was mostly full of general safety warnings(look both ways before crossing the street, "that Sandshrew isn't going anywhere" etc) was posted the same day the game came out in Australia, I doubt anyone did go in.

Hospitals can be another matter. I mean, there are sections of hospitals that don't allow cell phones because the signals interfere with the equipment. That being said, I doubt anyone is actually going into them unless they have a reason to be there in the first place. It's called Pokemon Go, as in "Go the fuck outside" after all.

So yeah, that pretty much just leaves your lawn.

Re: Pokemon Go is an accident or worse waiting to happen

It's easy to focus on the negative of what the game is doing, rather then focusing on any positive that people are actually getting together at places locally and enjoying time together with the game. Of course bad things are going to happen with a new device/game that is so popular.

And no, this is not completely true at all.

Re: Pokemon Go is an accident or worse waiting to happen

It's not as good as Uncharted 4.

Re: Pokemon Go is an accident or worse waiting to happen

The uncharted games aren't as good as the first 3 Indiana Jones movies though.

I agree 100% with this. After all the shootings, the race war starters, and WATCHING PEOPLE DIE ON FACEBOOK, why the fuck don't we deserve a chance to go fulfill our childhood dreams? And Pokemon has always had the ability to attract people of all different races, genders, and whatever else you want to talk about. Our generation knows this.

Re: Pokemon Go is an accident or worse waiting to happen

How would you know? It isn't in Britain or Europe yet. ;)

Well tbh nothings gonna beat Uncharted 4 for me this year. :gogirl:
