HI, Of all the softeware formats I keep coming across most, it is Quicktime. Is it good to have. I have a Dell and use FOX. But i have wanted to see various videos and cant cause I need Quicktime

MAY be a dumb question. But is Quicktime cool software to have, OR should i just ignore it. I already have windows media player, and realplayer.

Should I should I.....(!)(!)

Quicktime Alternate is better than the program itself, it doesn't hog up your system resources like the actual program.

I loathe Quicktime... cripplied piece of software that is.
But hey, with so many sites using it, what are you going to do?

I used to hate it but have quicktime pro version 7 on my mac and have no probs with it. It is good for compressing videos into other formats including H264 codec for mp4 and gives you a lot of control. For just general movie viewing on windows I really can't fault VLC player. It also has a host of other things it can do if you look under it's menus.

I hate quicktime and I hate that it's installed automatically with that other program I hate, iTunes. That's just a bundle of hate.

Yeah it really sucks that you have to install it. Apple fucks their users yet again. There is reason to even have Quicktime installed along with iTunes.

Yes you should - it doesn't mean that it's cool - personally I think it's crap and it regularly crashes my Firefox while Real Media, Windows Media and others don't but you need it for the 'full' browsing experience. I've tried to use Quicktime Alternative as well as Quicktime Pro and it still crashes my Firefox every so often.

OMG...that sounds AWFUL:eek:

So let me understand. Will Quicktime ALTERNATIVE ALSO do that?

And if you say 'no'. If I did install it, would it interfere with my Windows Media Player which I really really like?

This is about how cool Quicktime is...

It is a necessary program to have because it plays certain videos other programs can't.

Personally I like Quicktime. But it's better on Mac anyway.

Quicktime for Windows is way better than Windows Media Player for Mac though. :p

Well Quicktime Alternative use to do that with an outdated version of Firefox. Also to make things worse it did it with Internet Explorer as well not just Firefox.

Noelie's spot on as usual here. I mean you need to have quicktime to play certain files online, but is it cool? Well yea, if you have a really lame definition of cool. It's just one of those things you need, it's not "cool". In fact it sucks. But it is less sucky than other alternatives.... That's about all.

I dont want my system chrashing..........so WILL quicktime alternative do what Noelie said other one will do? ](*,)

There's no need to worry so much. Quicktime won't crash your system. A program causing your system to crash is very rare and you only occasionally get a program stop responding.

I say go on download it and see what you think.

Just get quicktime, what noelie said is that the browser plugin sometimes causes firefox to crash for him, it may never happen that way for you, if you even use firefox. But you do need quicktime for a lot of reasons. But quicktime itself is never going to completely crash your computer, just perhaps make you close your browser once and a while.

Yeah it's weird - it's obviously due to the way it's encoded/embedded in the web page - on the Richard Dawkins website it always crashes once the plugin is activated but on other websites it works just fine - go figure as you guys say. But yeah I agree with the above - you need it for the full browsing experience so get it and install t.

OK, now just to put this to bed. In last few posts kept hearing just Quicktime. Are you saying to go for Quicktime ALternative? IS this the best for me? And yeah, I have a Dell and use FOX.

As a video professional, I use Quicktime constantly, all day every day. I have no complaints at all. It is rock solid on every machine I use it on, and makes Windows Media and others look like the cheap toys that they are.

It has my wholehearted recommendation.

I have been recommended Quuicktime alternative as best. Do you agree?

How can you hate wondows media player. It looks real good to me, and has all these special effects with sound. and you can put on loops on videos

I have QT Player 7.2 on winxp and never had a problem altho I rarely use it except when integrated into browser.

I'd take Noelie's advice (and detailed instructions) and use real Quicktime.

Quicktime offers many of the eyecandy functions that Windows Media Player does, and looping etc. Quicktime also offers a wide range of professional standards for video and audio, including Uncompressed 10 bit 4:2:2 codecs, lossless Animation codec etc. But WMP (and wmv as a format) is useless in a professional environment. Stepping frame by frame through a video file is virtually impossible, playback controls are unresponsive and innaccurate when scanning quickly through media.

All of this is probably of no importance to you. Ultimately, use the application you like the best, but certainly have QT installed for at least it's web plugin functionality.
