  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Is there a brick-and-mortar place in the world where everybody knows your name?

Most of the gossip I heard in my hometown was true.

Same for the small town where I first taught school.

It was fair. Mankind lived in such environments for thousands of years. It is part of how our society developed.

I doubt it. I am fairly forgettable.

I have family that don't even know my real name. With that said I have ran into people I went to school with that I don't remember having anything to do with that remember me because they knew my real name.

I never watched the credits including Bebe, and I was not a faithful follower (what kind of person swallows seasons of series for years and years), but sure those seasons with those characters were the best...

I believe I saw the complete Cheers collection on DVD on Amazon. I'm thinking it was cheap.

Anyway, just for clarification, your title/question says 'a brick-and-mortar place'. You mean business establishments, not places like the nextdoor neighbours' houses, correct?:)

I mean not places like the JUB playground.

I bet everyone knows Vannie by name at his local cabbage market!
The Cabbage Master or Master Cabbage.

I've been a regular (at least weekly) at this fast food place for 25 years. Although it is a chain type place, it has always been owned by the same family. So everyone from the owner, manager, shift managers, and other full time employees know my first name. Often, when the dining lobby is nearly empty (quiet) I hear the person who is about to bring out my food, ask, where does this order go? Then I'll hear my name being said.

During the pandemic, when the lobby was closed for months (but drive-thru was open), I was "allowed" to hand them a clean cup or mug, and they would fill it with soda at the "refill" price (some gave it to me free). I heard at one point the Manger told the staff that I was the only person allowed to get that special treatment. No one else was allowed the refill prices because they don't want to handle containers that might not be clean. I always had a clean cup available.

There are places I go where 🎶“everybody knows I’m LAME. And they’re awfully glad they CAME🎶

I generally don't bother watching credits. Credits are why the DVD Player Gods invented the skip button.
Although I will make an exception when the credits involve a bunch of shirtless guys:

Closing credits? They don’t exist anymore. It’s just the last scene with minuscule type flying across the screen. Pity. Loved those TV theme songs!
