I'm trying to better learn the latest updates to Google Voice.
I have had Legacy Google Voice for about 8 years. Then about 2 years ago, Google sent me an email telling me that I could no longer use the number for call forwarding (where people call my Google number and it goes to my cellphone, without me using my actual cellphone number). So I was content with keeping my Google number, just so I did not have to give non-family and non-friends my actual cellphone number. So basically my Google number would accept phone calls and go directly to my Google Voicemail. Then I always received an email to let me know that I had a voicemail or text message (from someone using my Google number), which I was okay with and I learned to check my email more often, as not to respond too late to any important phone call or text message I received.
Though I heard rumors (about 2 years ago) that Google Voice is going away, then 2 weeks ago, I received an email from Google letting me know that their Legacy Google Voice is going away in a few weeks. Yet reading about all of the changes they are making to their new Google Voice and the features they are taking away, I’m very confused.
Overall, do I have to do anything once they change my Legacy Google Voice to the new Google Voice? If not, will I still be able keep my existing Google phone number and continue to receive telephone calls that will automatically go to my Google Voicemail and also receive text messages, where I can continue to go online (via email notifications) to my Google Voice account to retrieve my voicemail and text messages?
