Isaiah Washington Fired from Grey's!

If Isaiah has a problem with gays, he is in the wrong profession.
The world of entertainment has generally been blind to prejudice. Before integration, jazz bands etc were about the only venue where black and white artists played together.
If you're going to be in show biz you better get used to all races, religions and sexual preferences and keep your opinions to yourself. It's not only the performers but hair & make-up people, choreographers, set designers, producers, directors etc.
There is no room for prejudice in show biz. There probably would have been even more outrage if TR called Isaiah the "N" word.
I'm glad Gays are finally being defended in at least one area.

i still cant believe he went to rehab for saying the word faggot

May be it's becasue they're public personalities. A lot of poeple look up to them. That's not a good image to project. Half of the people in the industries are probably 50% gay. That's not a smart move. It's not like you and I when we say stuff like that, it just ends there. But when they say it. It's like they say it to the whole world.
I'm pretty sure they will bring in another black Character. This will be a good opportunity for a good actor out there.
I would love to see Lisa Bonet. Kind of miss her since the Cosby show.

Its not ok for anyone to call someone a faggot as a put down especially in a work environment based on people working well together as a team.

The situation here got out of hand because the guy didn't initially apologize, but repeated what he said in a public denial in an award show at a time when the series was being promoted to advertisers, etc.

Plus there were reports that he got into a fight with Patrick Dempsey and was repeatedly late and disruptive on set.

With the many thousands of other actors available out there, it's hardly a surprise that the show decided to dump this jackass.

True, I hear what you're saying, and I guess you're right, there were many other things to consider when they fired him. But had his name calling solely been the action he did, I would have let it slide off me.

Honestly, we have all had to work with people who were stupid and did nothing but bicker and moan and make things harder at work. But so what? Complaining about it is a waste of time.

whatever, does it really matter anymore? He's gone isn't he? Everyone happy now?

I enjoy Greys Anatomy.
I applaud them for having such a diverse cast of characters: Black, White, Asian, Hispanic and Gay.
Therir story lines show good and bad representatives of each element, just like in life.
It's unfortunate that Isaiah mouthed off, he was very good in his role.
It probably screwed up Dian Carroll every returning too, since she played his Mom.

So just because he´s black he can get away with homophobia? Well, not!!!!!

I´m glad they fired his ass ..| :=D:

Oh and please throw also that bitch who found the ¨F¨ word so amusing at the Golden Globes.

Fire her ass

I'm glad they fired him! :D

And I don't think it was *just* because of the incident, I did read he was rude to pretty much everyone, and that most of the cast, especially the women, couldn't stand him.

Plus, Burke really annoyed me this season. Good riddance! :)

But TR Knight is a homosexual.

Gay men should not play straight roles, its wrong.

That is quite possibly the dumbest thing I've ever read on this forum. But what am I too expect from someone who is glad that the US justice system is slanted towards the rich and famous.

And am I the only one who recalls that Washington's comments brought him to physical blows with Dempsey? You show me any job where you can start a fist fight with your co workers at the job and not get fired.

Burke was crappy character anyway. He weighed Christina down.

The black community is one of the most homophobic factions on this planet, and Isaiah Washington is clearly a product of that mentality. If someone like Don Imus can get fired for using the term "nappy-headed ho" (more of a sexist statement than a racist one, in my opinion, especially since it's the black community that coined the term "nappy-headed"), then a black man should be dealt with in kind for using a term that is just as offensive to the gay community as the term "nigger" is to the black community.

I am so sick and tired of the black community crying "racism" every time they don't get their way, yet they see nothing wrong whatsoever with their own bigotry. My hope is that this incident will compel a lot of blacks to look themselves in the mirror and confront their own hypocrisy.

What I find most tragically ironic about all of this is that the black community's homophobia is a product of the Judeo-Christian religious beliefs adopted by their ancestors from the plantation owners who brought them here as slaves!

:=D: (ww)

Black people do not get different treatment, or are such cry babies, in Latin American countries or Spain for that matter.

Whatever happened to free speech?
Freedom of Speech gives people protection from the government, not employers. If his contract was up, they can fire his ass for any reason they want. As with any other job, if you don't have any protections written into an employment contract, you are an employee-at-will and can be fired for any reason your boss sees fit(unless the reason is protected by an anti-discrimination law, which speech is not).

Thank you, Jy_Star

I am so tired of black people not being able to be seen as individuals, when one black person says something it has to be for the whole community...like their is just one kind of community of black people.

It seems to me that in the USA the statement could be that; The white community is one of the most homophobic factions on this planet given that I highly doubt the "black community" is what is stopping gays from having equal rights in America. It's the large number of white people who do not want gays to have equal rights since they are the majority of the people in America.

And I don't watch Grey's so I don't care if he was fired or stayed.

Er....What vast majority of white people don't want gays to have rights? The only right really remaining is marriage, and almost every time it's just been just barely defeated. Even then, it really looks like it will be happening within a few years.

I'm sort of in a catch-22 re: blacks and homophobia. It's not an issue of dealing with them as individuals; Washington was given an Image award for his role in Grey's Anatomy, and I don't really recall any black leaders decrying that award. From too many people's perspective the black community approved a black man making homophobic comments...

RG

Duh. IW was given an image award because of his on screen performance in Grey's, not because the NAACP wanted to congratulate him for calling his castmate a faggot. And truth be told, I don't think too many in the black community cared about his homophobic comments, one way or another.

There was plenty of time to take the award away...

Like I said: Weird Sitch. Although he deserved the award because of his role, his behavior behind the screens and its subsequent approval-by-omission, did not endear him (or the Image Awards) to the gay community.

And you are aware that, by adding "one way or another", you demonstrate that the black community are homophobic right? In other words, by demonstrating apathy, you shift the sentiment from a "they disliked it" to "they had no problem with it". Just an observation...

You my friend are racist.

BTW you are NOT black so you will never understand the "black struggle" in this country..

Also you can NEVER compare the N word to faggot.. too much history involved with the N word.

If the situation were reversed and TR Knight had called Washington the n-word, and then GLAAD gave him an award for his acting performance, I really doubt that too many in the black community would be all the more offended by his getting THAT accolade. It would be insignificant in the greater scheme of things. Black people care about the GLAAD awards about as much as gays care about the NAACP.

True. The big difference is TR would have been fired almost instantly and the whole situation wouldn't have dragged out over months.

You racist prick, you.

And your point?????????????

And btw, black people exist all over the rest of America (THE CONTINENT), and they are nowhere as touchy as African-Americans.(There has been integration of races over there).

Homophobia should not be tolerated from anybody... Good ridance I say. :=D:

That you're a racist prick. I think I was quite clear.

Quit acting like you even know any black people. Shut up. And good r-i-d-d-a-n-c-e to you.

FYI, black people exist all over the World... Latin America, Europe, Asia, Oceania...

Why can´t African-Americans let bygones be bygones?... the rest of black people from all over America (THE CONTINENT: YOU KNOW THERE EXIST PLACES BESIDES THE UNITED STATES) have.
