That men aren't showing as much skin in the media despite the fact that homosexuality has become so much more accepted in today's American society?

After watching the trailer for the new Hercules movie featuring The Rock (I wouldn't mind giving him one where the sun never shines ;) ) I was really shocked to see that unlike most of the other Hercules movies of the 1950s and 1960s, Hercules is shirtless but he's also wearing pants. Way back in the day with the old Steve Reeves Hercules movies, he wore nothing but a loincloth! And not only Hercules, I've noticed that a lot of modern-day superheroes no longer wear their underwear outside their tights like they used to. (and were made famous for) Some don't even wear tights anymore and they go out fighting crime in their street clothes. Not to mention, the whole deal with why men don't wear speedos nowadays. Now, you might be thinking "Oh, not another fucking topic about how America is prudish when it comes to sex, WE GET IT." But haven't you noticed how ironic this whole prudishness thing is? Men were showing a lot more skin way back in a time where homosexuality was deemed an abomination and a mental illness and now that people are becoming more informed of the truth of homosexuality and so many people now accept us for who we are, men have been showing less and less skin.

You see where I'm getting at?

Is there ever a day where you don't see the media and think "OH MY GOD THEY'RE NOT SHOWING WHAT I WANT TO SEE THEY MUST BE THE ENEMY!!!"?

Because i'm getting concerned.

xboxfan34, I completely agree with you that America has entered a New Age of Prudery.

There were speedo and skimpy shorts a generation ago but now young American are pussies in knee-length board shorts.

But I think this movie you're talking about is more about the fact that the star has a misshapen body with skinny legs
...the new Hercules movie featuring The Rock...

My whole point is that even though most American straight men are too prudish to show skin, they are also so much more accepting of homosexuality than the speedo wearing generation before them.

Most men were wearing speedos in a time where the idea of something like homosexual marriage was COMPLETLEY unheard of. Now, we've got 20 states that recognize it!

I wonder if everyone is more aware of the attention and publicity that skimpy clothing gets and are trying to avoid that.

Once again, you're talking out your ass. Short shorts have been back in style for young American guys for at least two years.

All i know is i can not wear a thong because if i did it would look like a squirrel trying to fight it's way out of a crown royal bag...|

And seriously, it's been long overdue. Those baggy ass long board shorts just look stupid. I'm glad that short shorts are back in style, makes going to the beach feel comfortable again.

I do not wear underwear some times so no short shorts for me . I am sure no one wants to see my junk hanging out .

This sort of thread can be fascinating - can be.

But, I always wonder, with cable/satellite dish companies offering hundreds of channels, cinemas rolling over new movies daily, thousands of online media websites, etc., how does one have time and ability to see enough of it all to make any kind of a 'percentage' type personal assessment of what's being presented?

And, even if we are talking of just the US, I doubt anyone in the States knows what everyone else in their own home town is wearing on any given day, forget trying to guess what is happening on the other side of the continent.

It seems, to me, that one would have to know what around 100 million American men have on, today, before one could begin to wonder/ask why they're wearing it.

So, how does one come by the confidence [read - brass balls] to call the majority of over 300 million individuals 'prudish'?

I don't know...I believe these are tout la rage across the US this summer.

Open carry.

It's very ironic. It's like rain on your wedding day, a free ride when you already paid, and so on. :p

If that song gets in my head, I will come to Canada (heading there anyway) to harm you. :jab:
