Is there a problem with the validation of hotmail accounts? I had to change my email because I've lost my previous one, but ywo days ago I was not able to post threads, send MP or even read some forums because my access was restricted, as I had not validated my email. I never received that mail, though, and I've tried to send again and again the verification mail but it didn't come. Yesterday it seemed for a few ours that everything was ok, but today my access was restricted again. I've tried several times with two different outlook accounts, but it didn't work. And now... I've tried with a Gmail account, and immediately the mail arrive to my main box, and now I have full access. But I don't want that email to be attached to my forum account. What's happening?
 
One of the new features of the forum is that if our mail server gets bounceback errors from member's accounts, it will auto-suspend the emails until we get an updated email address.

However... this can be a problem if you have an older email address on your account that is no longer valid. If you have email notifications enabled, your account may get suspended after the mail server receives multiple bounceback notifications. Please make sure that you keep a current email address on your account if you are receiving email notifications (this is a setting in your user profile).

Also... for safety reasons to keep someone from attempting to change your email without your knowledge, if your your email address is updated, you will receive a confirmation email from the mail server. Until you respond to that confirmation email, your account is in a suspended state. If this happens to you in error, we may need to manually re-enable your account. Open a Contact Us request (the link is on the bottom of each forum page).

For Hotmail and Outlook.com users: Periodically, Microsoft flags xenForo's mail service as being a possible spammer which can block JUB's emails. If you have a Hotmail or Outlook.com email address and your JUB logon gets suspended, open a Contact Us request and we can unsuspend your account until Microsoft removes us from their blacklist.

The main problem is that I could log in, read almost all the forums... but I couldn't write in any thread or PM, so it was impossible for me to contact any moderator.

That is what was happening with your account. When Microsoft blacklisted us earlier this week, all JUB members who had Outlook/Hotmail addresses who had email notifications turned started getting bounced emails. After 3 bounced emails, the mailserver suspends your JUB account so that no more emails are sent.

Our mail server (which is managed by xenForo) sends out thousands of emails through xenForo's network. It seems to happen about every 4-6 months that Microsoft sees the large amount of traffic coming from xenForo and they flag it as spam. It usually takes 1-3 days for Microsoft to fix the problem and "whitelist" us again.

Can we have .webp image format support added to the forums? As described here, it's increasingly used in favor of JPGs and PNGs: https://developers.google.com/speed/webp .

Rationale:
I notice a lot of the images I find online for the "Funs & Games" threads (like for a movie poster or an album cover) are .webp. I usually go through an extra step with local software like GIMP to convert it to something the board will accept natively (and I'm sure there's web-based tools that will convert), which takes more time, when using .webp directly as-is would be nice.

If I try to use a .webp with "Attach files", I just get this error:

The uploaded file does not have an allowed extension. The following extensions are allowed: .txt, .pdf, .png, .jpg, .jpeg, .jpe, .gif, .gifv, .m4v, .mov, .mp4, .mp4v, .mpeg, .mpg, .ogv, .webm, .mp3, .opus, .ogg, .wav


Can't fool the software either by renaming it .jpg as an extension (sometimes, if the binary type is supported but not by extension, renaming works), as I just get: :)

The uploaded file was not an image as expected.


Questions:
1) Is this something JUB staff can customize to support in the forums via custom code, or enabling through the board software's config?
2) If out of the hands of JUB (or in a practical/easy way), is it something XenForo would need to make available to support .webp's? Therefore does JUB have ability to log a ticket/wishlist/request with XenForo for it, that might get more attention than, say, me or someone randomly writing XenForo to ask about it?

.webp is new. I use https://webptogif.com/ to convert. Mess around and the convert to .jpg is right there. Oh, here: https://webptojpg.com/

Works well.

Not too new; the format was announced in 2010 and stable libraries were there by 2018! :) My question was directed more for the board admins about native support as I think it's high time. But appreciate the third-party link and might save me some local GIMP time. :)
 
We've held off on adopting webp and avif because we knew that many of the members are using older technology and may have browsers without support for newer formats.

Currently, xenForo doesn't have webp support. Some of the issue with the PHP version. It should be coming in a future version, though (maybe v2.3 with PHP 8.1 support?). We're currently on xF 2.2 with PHP 8.0.x.

I did test it to see what would happen if I set webp to be an allowable attachment type. It won't thumbnail the image, so it treats it like a URL that you have to click on to view. :(

It's a Spam Blocking feature. You have to be here for a few days and you have to like a few things. Sort of to prove you are not a robot. The software running this place is rather awesome.

Once you get past the SpamBot test everything gets easier.

I am getting the dreaded orange bars when I try to rate a media item but I was able to find a workaround. It does appear to be a popup blocker problem.

If you right click on the "Leave a Rating" and select the "open in a new window" option (working may vary between different browsers), it will open an expanded window

Twice today I've been unable to access JUB. I get a checking connection security screen, which changes to a connection secure screen, but doesn't let me in for a couple of hours. Is this a known issue?
 
I had the "checking connection security" screen today. First time here for this site. No idea why, all I did was click "What's New". Then I couldn't connect. Cloud-whatever blamed the JUB server. Sure, ok, do that CYA thing and pass the blame. Seems to be working now.

You may be asked, "Are you human?" periodically throughout the day. It is a security check that hopefully will be going away in the next few hours.
