Arcenius said:He was called a fucking terrorist DURING the game. OF COURSE people will defend him. Not to mention the fact that he was awarded the Golden Ball. There is more talk about HIM than Italy's pathetic victory, FOR A REASON!
Is this the only way Italy can win anything??? By calling other players terrorists and insulting their mother/sister??? Sports has its own rules and ethics, and if you're going to bring insults, you dishonor the very sport you play.
As Zidane said...."no provocation, no reaction." Materazzi is lucky a head-but is all he got. It could have been worse.
This is an example of how stupid Materazzi and his nationality really is:
He doesn't know what a terrorist is? HAHAHAAH
sbamps said:Arcenius,
you've been yourself really racist stating that. Like Thiery Henry, some days before the match against Brazil, when he declared that "brazilian guys play well because they don't go to schools". Generalizing is being racist and ignorant.
Do you like when people say that US citizens are ignorant about other countries, or consider themselves the bellybutton of the universe? I guess you don't. Because it's not true. People must be evaluated individually, not as a group. There's no stupid nationality, there are stupid people. Be careful not joining them.
greaves said:All this devalues Italy's World Cup win. Juve have been stripped of their last 2 Serie A titles - 2004/5 and 2005/6. Should Italy be stripped of their World Cup title?
sbamps said:The italian team won because it has played better; everything apart from that sounds like losers' moan.
Arcenius,
calling a nationality stupid is racism. And you did that.
greaves said:Valentino Rossi is one of the greatest, most charismatic and bravest sportsmen in the world. His victory yesterday, in the MOTOGp in Germany, was sensational; one of the sporting highlights of this summer.
greaves said:The same cannot be said about Italy's victory in the WCup final.

greaves said:Valentino did indeed not only carry the shirt, but put it on for his celebratory lap. As he said after the race, he put it on, as "all Italy was watching."
He loves his country. And wants to display his solidarity with Italian football fans, as they experience a difficult time.
Ok! I agree with you, but he chose Materazzi' shirt because this one is his great friendgreaves said:But Valentino is a true champion, as there is, quite obviously, no hint of corruption in MOTOgp.
The same cannot be said of Italian football. If Materazzi is seen as hero in Italy, that says all that needs to be said about the state of Italian football. And VR's emotional, but understandable, response will not change that.
You can't say that Italian soccer players are corrupted. The corruption in Serie A exist in a management level. And are you sure that corruption is an exclusive of Italian soccer? In Italy Materazzi isn't an hero like Zidane is in France. To Italian people, either they are Juve's supporters or Inter's or others, real heros are magistrates who investigate about corruption.greaves said:Most people who watched the WCup final agree that France were the better side and deserved to win. That Italy won is sad.![]()
Most people watched all of WCup not only the final and agree that France didn't deserve to play the final, lolgreaves said:Oliver: go back to my first post of this thread and click on Wikipedia link. Italian players ARE involved in corruption allegations.
The "state of Italian football" is that it is awash with corruption. Italy are WCup Champions until South Africa 2010. Should we celebrate this? I don't think so.
