Italy; Love Them? Hate Them?

Arcenius said:
He was called a fucking terrorist DURING the game. OF COURSE people will defend him. Not to mention the fact that he was awarded the Golden Ball. There is more talk about HIM than Italy's pathetic victory, FOR A REASON!

Is this the only way Italy can win anything??? By calling other players terrorists and insulting their mother/sister??? Sports has its own rules and ethics, and if you're going to bring insults, you dishonor the very sport you play.

As Zidane said...."no provocation, no reaction." Materazzi is lucky a head-but is all he got. It could have been worse.

This is an example of how stupid Materazzi and his nationality really is:

He doesn't know what a terrorist is? HAHAHAAH

Edit: had to change a spelling error

Arcenius,

you've been yourself really racist stating that. Like Thiery Henry, some days before the match against Brazil, when he declared that "brazilian guys play well because they don't go to schools". Generalizing is being racist and ignorant.
Do you like when people say that US citizens are ignorant about other countries, or consider themselves the bellybutton of the universe? I guess you don't. Because it's not true. People must be evaluated individually, not as a group. There's no stupid nationality, there are stupid people. Be careful not joining them.

I'm not a racist at all. A racist is one who hates another group of people because he believes they are LOWER than he is. I have never stated such a statement.

There has also been a NY times article a day ago which a former Italian government official has stated that the French team is comprised of "Terrorists, communists, and Moslems" due to the fact that the French team is mostly black.

THAT is racist. What I said, is not.

So, for now, the Italian Football authority - FIGC - has handed out its punishments to the 4 major Serie A clubs involved in the corruption scandal: Juve, AC Milan, Lazio and Fiorentina.

There are 4 other Serie A clubs - Siena, Messina, Reggina and Lecce-
plus Arezzo from serie B, involved in the same corruption investigation. Decisions about these clubs are awaited.

There are also separate corruption investigations involving AS Roma and Napoli.

Added to this, Materazzi has admiited he "insulted" Zidane.

All this devalues Italy's World Cup win. Juve have been stripped of their last 2 Serie A titles - 2004/5 and 2005/6. Should Italy be stripped of their World Cup title?

ITALY WINS WORLD
DIVING CHAMPIONSHIP
Italy beat Australia following a spectacular dive by one of its team members. Against France, another Italian player took a dive. Now it seems that Italy has no football players or footbal teams. All they have is divers and teams of divers. The referees and toher officials also have their own diving teams.

So much for Italy being the world champions! They have denigrated the beautiful game and bought it into disrepute. They, and I mean a great number of them, have been shown to be shameless cheats and a blight on the world game.

Oh how the mighty have fallen. Roosters one day, feather dusters the next.

I am wondering why this report was released 5 days after the World Cup final and not 5 days before. Would Italy had won if it had?

NO! NEVER! Italy won because played the best soccer. Don't forget that Italy bet Germany in an unforgettable match, when Italians played very well!
And if you still don't know : MILAN won 6 Champions League till now!

And now we have Silvio Berlusconi - former Prime Minister of Italy, owner of AC Milan, and controller of 90% of Italian TV media thru' his company Mediaset, being charged with with fraud. See:

http://www.milancity.com/

Perhaps Peto A could post his first interesting contribution to JUB by telling us what the Italian is for "can of worms". ;)

The italian team won because it has played better; everything apart from that sounds like losers' moan.

Arcenius,
calling a nationality stupid is racism. And you did that.

Then I suggest you get informed about racism my friend. Calling someone stupid is just that, calling them stupid. There is no rave here involved at all.

However, calling the French team terrorists and Moslems, now that is racism.

Oliver: this thread is about the state of Italian football.

Valentino Rossi is one of the greatest, most charismatic and bravest sportsmen in the world. His victory yesterday, in the MOTOGp in Germany, was sensational; one of the sporting highlights of this summer.

The same cannot be said about Italy's victory in the WCup final.

Did you see what he takes on hands at Victory's celebration yesterday? The Materazzi's shirt!

Then which team deserved for you the WCup's victory?

Valentino did indeed not only carry the shirt, but put it on for his celebratory lap. As he said after the race, he put it on, as "all Italy was watching."

He loves his country. And wants to display his solidarity with Italian football fans, as they experience a difficult time.

But Valentino is a true champion, as there is, quite obviously, no hint of corruption in MOTOgp.

The same cannot be said of Italian football. If Materazzi is seen as hero in Italy, that says all that needs to be said about the state of Italian football. And VR's emotional, but understandable, response will not change that.

Most people who watched the WCup final agree that France were the better side and deserved to win. That Italy won is sad. :(

Now Italy can celebrate! One of the most boring sporting events of the summer - described as a "monotonous procession" by most commentators, where the winner was decided in the pits rather than on the the race-track...

How can you compare this farce to MOTOgp?

](*,) Ok! I agree with you, but he chose Materazzi' shirt because this one is his great friend

](*,) You can't say that Italian soccer players are corrupted. The corruption in Serie A exist in a management level. And are you sure that corruption is an exclusive of Italian soccer? In Italy Materazzi isn't an hero like Zidane is in France. To Italian people, either they are Juve's supporters or Inter's or others, real heros are magistrates who investigate about corruption.
The state of Italian soccer now is: WORLD CHAMPION UNTIL 2010!

](*,) Most people watched all of WCup not only the final and agree that France didn't deserve to play the final, lol

Oliver: go back to my first post of this thread and click on Wikipedia link. Italian players ARE involved in corruption allegations.

The "state of Italian football" is that it is awash with corruption. Italy are WCup Champions until South Africa 2010. Should we celebrate this? I don't think so.

The verdict is out! FIFA has layed to rest the infamous head-butting issue. Here's the article:

http://www.cbc.ca/story/sports/national/2006/07/20/zidane-materazzi-fifa.html

The penalties:
Zidane - banned for 3 matches, fined 7,500 francs
Materazzi - banned for 2 matches, fined 5000 francs

One piece of the article I'd especially like to point out is the quote by FIFA:

"In their statements, both players stressed that Materazzi's comments had been defamatory but not of a racist nature ," FIFA said Thursday.

So there you have it-- Just your typical shit-talking that occurs in virtually every sport. This should silence those who claim that Italians are racist and discriminatory and so on. Face the facts: The players exchanged words, and Zidane's lack of discipline and frustration at being shut down by Italian keeper Gigi Buffon resulted in the head-butting. FIFA's sentencing proves who's more at fault here.

So, I say again and proudly:

FORZA AZZURRI!
