Its pumpkin yogurt time!

Last year I bought some "autumn harvest" soup and it was literally nothing more than watered down pumpkin pie filling... and I know it was because it came out after thanksgiving when the store probably had an excess of it and were looking for creative ways to get rid of it all. I can't remember if it was Sobeys or CO-OP.

THREAD TITLE...sing to the tune of...

...which got me to watching a Howdy Doody episode from 1951, now. Yes, one of the most popular kids' shows ever...but how did mail get to "Howdy Doody, P. O. box 4, New York, N. Y."??

Not even a Zone in the address. I don't get it. (No, zip Codes didn't exist yet, but Zones were used - such as Detroit 23, Michigan.)

I like how they tried to make the setting "look" '50s with a new Crosley record player and an '80s Panasonic TV.

Think the pumpkin thing is getting just a little bit much but love pumpkin pie! Love it this time of year and throughout the holidays, pumpkin or apple pie being my favorite desserts!:luv2:

I know we have quite a few good cooks here. Some of you...not so much :)

If you steal a few of your neighbors pumpkins, its easy to make and so good.Just wash your stolen pumpkins well and cut them in half.Scoop out all the seeds and place pumpkins face side down in a roasting pan and cover with foil. Bake at 375 degrees until pumpkin is fork tender.(1-1/2-2 hours)While the pumpkin is roasting...dice a large yellow onion, and saute until soft in a tablespoon of butter.Set aside.

When pumpkin is done, let cool down and scoop out flesh and put into the blender along with cooked onion.Add some chicken stock(boxed or fresh)heavy cream, some pumpkin pie spice and a little squeeze of maple syrup.Puree until velvety smooth.Serve room temperature,or reheat.Garnish with a few chopped pistachios or roasted pumpkin seeds.Really good.

Yea...sure Vannie...like we all have time to do that, and get arrested for stealing pumpkins.

Wouldn't it cut out a lot of that work if you just took a shovel and went out and scraped them off the road?

It would cut down the risk of jail time, and benefit your local community, too.

Seriously, though, it pays to source your pumpkin from someone who knows what they're doing. There are a number of kinds or varieties which have been bred for decorative use, and no matter what you do with them, you're not really going to end up with a palatable product. It resembles something like the bilge pumped out of a garbage scow.

The hole is a bit large...but thank you.

It pays to live next door to someone who has a garden next to the fence. If pumpkins, squash, cucumbers, etc. grow through the fence, then they're yours. hey, if you're responsible for the part of the neighbour's tree that hangs into your yard, then those vegetables that grow through the fence and into your yard should be yours too. At least that's what I figure.

I always wondered if those decorative gourds in the store were edible. You always see them in the stores during fall, but they're lacquered. Apparently they're not edible, which is a shame, but I can see why they're decorative, because they look really cool. I just wish they had more of a purpose.
