So, will these guys apologize for their ridiculously paranoid prognostications and promise never to do it again?

While there are many possible explanations for why many Americans fell for the conspiracy theory — whether they were trying to spice up a “boring” life or, as one Texas mayor speculated, reacting to the gradual erosion of white supremacy — there’s simply no excuse for elected officials to indulge in such foolishness.

The other explanation is that Texans with only their Grade 8 education have been so stoked up by conspiracy theory nonsense being spouted for purely self-serving political purposes by cynical and manipulative asshats, that they proved there's at least one born every minute.

If you removed all their brains and compiled the material in a petri dish.... you'd still have a rock.

Alas, my house has not been invaded by hard-bodied special forces requiring me to submit to their authority.

I'm kind of hoping they'll soon kick in our door and apply the cuffs.

Now I do believe that at the beginning of this, Ben was asked if he would recant if this turned out to be utter and complete bullshit and admit that Obama didn't plan an invasion of Texas - let's ask shall we, BEN do you now realize that this turned out to be utter and complete bullshit and that Obama didn't plan an invasion of Texas?

Of course you do...

I'm sure he was misunderstood that he misstated what he didn't understand when he said what he didn't but did.

Although I'm sure he was with George and the guard looking for the invaders.

Texas should merge with Mehico, and rename themselves TexMex. Americans can go south for their vacations because it become special, hot and exotic, not like scary foreign places.

Mexico is on the edge of being a failed state. Its government, in cahoots with the cartels, is at war with its own people.

Now, if Texas were to be out of the Union and sent its national guard units to help the autodefensas.....

You mean the cartels that are using weapons we have supplied to the area for more than a decade and that are enriched by the healthy drug habits from the people north of the area where Trump wants to build a wall? If I were Mexico, I might actually go along with the idea because if the cash were shut off to the cartels, they'd starve or move elsewhere.

We could send the cartels into a tailspin very nicely by ending the subsidy to drug prices mis-named the "War on Drugs".

We could really put a crimp in their power if we made ordinary U.S. civilian arms available to the autodefensas at the same discount we give to allied nations. Morons such as Palin talk about a "Second Amendment remedy" here, but Mexico is in a condition that could actually use one.

As for weapons, the nastiest ones the cartels have come from the Mexican military, or south of their border.

I think it was attempt by Obama to give Texas back to Mexico. The deal fell apart when the Mexican President said, "OK, Barack, you give us Texas, but then what are you going to do for us?"

The U.S. didn't get Texas from Mexico.

This is a Trunpist stupidity - half the battle getting Texans to agree with you can be summed up in that sentiment. Why should people down here care what you say when you are so obviously bigoted.

That goes for the whole South. You want them to change? Or do you want to feel superior?

True. Most of the profit in the illicit trade in drugs is there only because of the drug laws. Opium and cocaine derivatives would have an almost negligible retail price, were it not for the laws against them.

I can't honestly say how I'd come down on the repeal issue, although I tend to lean in its favour. They don't stop people from getting them, now. Whether more people would use them, and whether we could absorb the social costs is another question.

Balanced against that, however, would have to be the lessened costs of associated crime and criminalised activities, such as theft/burglary for the former, and prostitution for the latter.

I suspect repeal will never happen, in part because of the lack of political will. There are always idiots who will be hoodwinked by the claim to be 'tough on crime'. The major stumbling block is probably the prison-industrial complex. I doubt they would be happy to have the source of their profits -- human bodies -- cut off or decreased, and money talks ... especially to those who are beholden to that money. And as WS Burroughs once remarked, Hell hath no more vociferous fury than that of an endangered parasite.

I have loved watching what has happened where marijuana was legalized. Colorado is awash in money and societal crime/issues are going down. Perhaps it's because everyone has mellowed out but Sodom and Gomorrah have again failed to appear -- sort of like with gay marriage.

How can one party be so wrong so often and yet still have anyone believe a word they say?

You know, I've been trying to trigger a Sodom at least for YEARS!
