Jake Gyllenhaal crowned 'Prince Of Persia'

Jake Gyllenhaal has been signed to star in "Disney's Prince Of Persia: Sands Of Time " after months of speculation surrounding the movie's male lead. The Brokeback Mountain star has been confirmed to play the title's Prince Daston in moviemaker Jerry Bruckheimer's film adaptation of the hit computer game, according to industry publication Hollywood reporter.

Initially, reports suggested British actor Orlando Bloom was to play the lead, with speculation suggesting he was set to received a huge $40 million fee for the role. But the reports were denied by Disney last month.

The film will also star Bond Girl Gemma Arterton, and is slated to be directed by Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire filmmaker Mike Newell.

Work on the epic movie will start on June 19 at U.K. based Pinewood Studios, with location work in Morocco.

"Prince Of Persia: Sands Of Time" will be the first in a trilogy of films based on the games.

Re: Jake Gyllenhaal crowned as 'Prince Of Persia'

Why don't they get someone who would vaguely resemble someone from persia, rather than just give the role to someone who has already had huge success in hollywood? I'd assume there's going to be a lot of action involved having played the video games and so giving a non famous actor the role would have been a wiser move.

Re: Jake Gyllenhaal crowned 'Prince Of Persia'

Great games, but they won't make great films. Either they'll have to copy chunks which will bore fans or completely rewrite it, which it looks like they're doing with that casting choice.

Re: Jake Gyllenhaal crowned 'Prince Of Persia'

Why do they keep making movies based on video games? I can think of two that are OK adaptations, at best! Resident Evil and Tomb Raider. Like I said, they were just OK. All the other suck pond water! They need to stop this!

Re: Jake Gyllenhaal crowned 'Prince Of Persia'

jake is hot....but i cant see him playing the role........and it's by disney.....i cant see that becoming good either...

Re: Jake Gyllenhaal crowned 'Prince Of Persia'

Great game. Hot actor. Lousy movie combination.

Re: Jake Gyllenhaal crowned 'Prince Of Persia'

Honestly, I think that they will try to make it work, and it may or may not succeed. I think they should have gotten an actor from the Persian area(can't remember what it's called now)

And the fact that it's from Disney, and not a respectable studio, is limiting my hopes for the film.

But, I will still probably see it in theatres. Am just that kinda fan, lol.

^^Persia = Iran.

Re: Jake Gyllenhaal crowned 'Prince Of Persia'

Yeah I don't understand this, LoL

But then I also find out they were looking to have Orlando Bloom earlier on...? What, why?

There goes all my hope for a well built nicely tanned man of color simulating awesome acrobatic stunts

...is Mischa Barton or the Gossip Girl up the love interest yet?

Re: Prince Of Persia...

I watched all the E3 gameplay videos. They said they are making the platforming more easier. This kind of urks me, because the platforming was great as it was, challenging and fun. I hope they don't dumb it down that much. There will also be no time powers like the previous game - that's a huge loss. The rewind feature was a major innovation, and it's not making a return. Instead, your character will always be saved by the new female character.

The environment looks really good. I can't say the same about the character models. Maybe it will grow on me later.

Re: Prince Of Persia...

I remember playing PoP on an old Macintosh computer in like, 1992.

It was hard! I don't think I ever beat it!

A couple screen shots to jog anyone's memory ;)

Ahhh, memories...

So here's a photo of Jake in his role on set for the video game-movie adaptation of "The Prince of Persia." It seems like the reactions are that it's a poor casting choice because he just doesn't look ferocious, but that no one's arguing that he looks hot as FUCK.

I think I messed my pants a little, and in the front, not the back:

WOW last time I saw i picture of him with out his shirt he looked like it had taken a break from the gym, and that was not to long agao, but i guess he was just blooted that day. What a hottie.

when we were introduced to the prince in sands of time, he was anything but ferocious. he was more innocent than anything else, but he was still tough; with that said, i think jake has an OK look, but i'd be able to judge better if i saw him in action. it was the events after sands of time that started making the prince hardened and darker, and i'm really hoping we don't see any of that in this movie. sands of time was perfect the way it was, all the movie needs to do is stick to that and they'll be fine.
