ARTICLE: http://www.okmagazine.com/2009/09/janet-jackson-planning-spectacular-vma-tribute-to-michael/

From Kara (dancers) Twitter: "Listening to "Scream" over and over as the dancers and Janet learn the steps kinda makes me want to scream. But this gig is cool and easy." 6:22 PM Sep 4th from web http://twitter.com/karakrio

Wade Robson's bulletin on MySpace:
WADE ROBSON, MIA MICHAELS, BRIAN FRIEDMAN, CRIS JUDD, TRAVIS PAYNE, TINA LANDON, DAVE SCOTT, TYCE DIORIO, JERRY SLAUGHTER, LAURIE ANN GIBSON & GIL DULDULAO ARE PERFORMING WITH JANET JACKSON ON THE MTV VMA AWARDS ON SEPTEMBER 13TH IN TRIBUTE TO MICHAEL JACKSON.

Tina Landon (former Janet choreographer) boyfriend wrote on her messageboard:
Hello all in Landon Land!!!
"Since Wade has already spilled the beans... HAHA... Tina will be performing with Janet and...

WADE ROBSON, MIA MICHAELS, BRIAN FRIEDMAN, CRIS JUDD, TRAVIS PAYNE, TINA LANDON, DAVE SCOTT, TYCE DIORIO, JERRY SLAUGHTER, LAURIE ANN GIBSON & GIL DULDULAO.

They Have been rehearsing all week, and from what I hear it's great.
I wouldn't missed the OPENING of the show, if you're picking up what I'm putting down."

Re: Janet Set to Perform MJ Tribute at VMAs

Glad to hear it. Hopefully she can pull something big off. I think this year in general will be big. With this and Gaga, should be some crazy stuff going down.

Re: Janet Set to Perform MJ Tribute at VMAs

Now I have a reason to watch.

Re: Janet Set to Perform MJ Tribute at VMAs

Love janet jackson. I like that shes an amazing singer/show-woman yet not scared to have a little fun, i.e will and grace etc

Re: Janet Set to Perform MJ Tribute at VMAs

am I the only one who thinks this is another example of the Jackson family using Michael's death for their own gain? this "tribute" is just going to provide her with money and tons of publicity (which I'm sure will come in handy when her new album drops soon, as it was announced on her official website, which launched a mere week after her brother's death).

I'm sorry if that sounds harsh, but it's just my opinion.

pretty much...you're comparing Janet to what Jermaine and Latoya have done...far from it. Janet is the ONLY ONE worthy of performing an MJ Tribute plus she doesn't need the money or fame. SHE'S JANET FUCKIN' JACKSON. This performance is going to show the world why they loved Janet in the first place. She'll get her respect back and it's one of the biggest moments in her life.

Re: Janet Set to Perform MJ Tribute at VMAs

I don't think Janet has done anything as far as using Michael's death for her own gain, whereas yes some of the other Jacksons have. I think a tribute of his works by her is very fitting.

I agree...this is now the highly anticipated performance Sunday night...Thank god she's opening the show. This and True Blood in one night, I can't Control myself

many have/will benefit from michael jackson's death. some may be opportunistic (latoya), others (janet/vma) by circumstances.

you can't fault any music-related event for some kind of jackson tribute. and you can't fault janet, being his sibling with a successful recording career, no matter how long ago. the moribund vma will get a much needed boost in ratings with this tribute since his death is so recent. i don't think the additional audience will be tuning in to see janet ( or gaga) but because of michael jackson.

as for the timing of the release of new product by janet posted on her website, i'd give her the benefit of the doubt. after several lackluster releases she probably didn't have the luxury of waiting too long before releasing new material. this tribute and others sure to follow will keep her in the public eye for so long. sympathy might help sales of her upcoming release but how long can that last.

needless to say she doesn't need the money. her past recordings and tours have built up a fortune i'm guessing between 200-300 million. she doesn't need to be relevant ever again.

Re: Janet Set to Perform MJ Tribute at VMAs

^^ expect more viewers, trust. Janet fans have a thing against MTV since they blacklisted her. Her fan forum is already 30+ pages in less than 24 hrs after it was confirmed

Concerned about Janet Jackson's Career

I'm a little worried about Janet Jackson's career. Things have just not been happening for her lately with the last couple of albums bombing. But then I remember that she did have a phenomenal 15 year run from 1986 (Control) through the early 2000s with the "All for You" tour and album. And she may have some more hits left in her? Who knows?

Re: Concerned about Janet Jackson's Career

You know, I've been thinking about this a lot lately, in the wake of MJ's death. I think she is still reeling from the Super Bowl fiasco. Also, a little of it has to do with the fact that she's still trying to find a sound that's relevant that also suits her voice. Everything lately from 20yo and Discipline sounds so light. It's hard to "figure out" what she's going for.

On the bright side, I do think the death of MJ might give her some sympathy and people might forget the Super Bowl incident.

Re: Concerned about Janet Jackson's Career

I think wait till after the VMAs this Sunday after she does her tribute, it's kind of her redemption thing, if done right, this could be the performance of her life, it's unfortunate that it took MJ's death to get back to why people love Janet

Re: Concerned about Janet Jackson's Career

^I didn't know that she's going to open the VMAs!!! That's fantastic. Good thing she's doing a tribute - MJ songs, so people will definitely be in the mood.

I hope you're right - this performance could resurrect her career.

Re: Janet Set to Perform MJ Tribute at VMAs

Janet was preparing to launch her site before Michael died. She's been working on an album, lingerie line, book, and tour before he died as well.

Harpers Bazaar and VMA Tribute are results of his death, undoubtedly.

Re: Concerned about Janet Jackson's Career

The only thing I've found wrong with her recent music is that you can't understand a lot of what she is saying because the music muffles her voice. Also, I'm surprised that some singles didn't do as well as I would've hoped. Like "So Excited." Fuckin love that song.

I think now that her and Jermaine are done, she has a better chance of success. People get tired of songs sounding the same. And although that's what made Mariah's Emancipation so huge, people got tired of the Jermaine crap.

Re: Concerned about Janet Jackson's Career

Janet is and always will be a legend.

The media and naysayers had a reason to have a field day with her for the Superbowl 2004 scandal. And that's ALL they have against her.

She's multi-talented and has every reason to continue with her career. She'll be just fine, no need to be concerned about Janet.

After selling 100 million singles/albums, transitioning between film, television, dance, and music for the last 36 years and being worth $150 million, I think it's US who need to worry about keeping our jobs and making ends meet. :D

I've said it before --- death is the gift to life. People took Janet and Michael for granted. All the bashing stopped since Michael died, which is unfortunate, because we're all human and we shouldn't let a breast be reason enough to root for someone's failure. Only the uptight and those involved with Viacom/Clear Channel really cared anyways. But it did affect her career.

She keeps going and no way will she stop now.

Re: Concerned about Janet Jackson's Career

Well, at the upcoming MTV VMA's, she could always show us the other titty. Surely people would be interested in that.

Re: Concerned about Janet Jackson's Career

I do love Janet's music however, I think she's had a good run and if she never created another musical masterpiece again, she will still have several to her name.

Re: Concerned about Janet Jackson's Career

I love Janet..sad her last feww albums didn't do as well..I think she needs to change up the producers she works with..add variety..hopefully the VMAs help...

Re: Concerned about Janet Jackson's Career

A different approach and attitude is all it takes. At the end of the day, no matter how good an album may be, if people don't buy it, the album will go unnoticed.

But for every bad in Janet's career, there's been 5xs more good. She's blessed to have made it this long and to keep going. There's more in store for her.
