Re: Janet fans!! Rock Witchu Tour...who's going?

I don't think 15 minutes lasts the 37 years she's been in entertainment...

It doesn't matter how popular you are. In this business, you're only as good as your last project.
You have to be a chameleon like Madonna to keep up with generation. Her CD always sound a little different than her last one. Please don't flame me on this but Janet Jackon, Britney Spears songs are always sound the same to me. You heard one you heard them all.
If her tickets are not selling like she's expected she might cut it short. She barely has any hit single at all from her last two CDs.

Re: Janet fans!! Rock Witchu Tour...who's going?

She'll sell just fine because this isn't a large scale tour, but the demand for her to perform is there. Not a single concert since 2001, the unfair outcome of the SB performance, the lack of promotion and support for Damita Jo and 20 Y.O....yet the world DOES want to see Janet come out on top. Everyone knows she's not done yet.

Speaking for myself, Janet's music has been an important part of my life. Whether it's listening to Come Back To Me when I was in pre-school, watching her perform If on MTVs New Years Celebration in 1993, digging her jumping around the world in the Runaway video, talking about her bout with depression with The Velvet Rope, being the first MTV Icon, and still performing better than chicks half her age at 42! I have nothing but love for her and I can't wait to attend my first Janet concert. An experience to remember forever. :)

Never forget the doors Janet broke down, her accomplishment, her creativity and the large catalog of music that is over 100 songs. She's not everyone's cup of tea, but she's one hell of a talented performer!

To sell tickets, it does matter how popular you are. Regardless if you think that Janet's no longer relevant in music or not, she's still Janet Jackson. Janet's fan base goes beyond here, she got fans of all races and ages. That's her appeal. It doesn't matter if she hasn't had a "hit" single off her last two CDs, she got songs that made her where she is today:

What Have You Done For Me Lately
Nasty
Control
When I Think Of You
Pleasure Principle
Let's Wait Awhile
Miss You Much
Rhythm Nation
Escapade
Black Cat

Love Will Never Do Without You

If
Again
Because of Love
You Want This
Anytime Anyplace

So Janet will do just fine. This thread says Janet fans ... so walk on out of this thread.

Miss Janet gets nasty with her record company

Janet Jackson has aired her frustrations with Island Def Jam, whom she claims is no longer supporting her label debut, "Discipline." The album has sold 392,000 copies in the United States since its February release, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Jackson told SOHH.com that Island discontinued promoting "Discipline" after her single, "Rock With U," failed to chart. Additional friction apparently resulted from Island also releasing "LUV" as a single, despite Jackson's wish that "LUV" be worked on its own.

"Luv" peaked at No. 34 on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, while the first single released from the new album, "Feedback," reached No. 39.

In a statement released exclusively to Billboard, an Island Def Jam spokesperson says, "Unfortunately we haven't experienced the results we would have liked with this new album. But we respect and support Janet."

Jackson further claimed that due to dwindling label support, she won't be able to visit Europe as part of her upcoming Live Nation-promoted "Rock Witchu tour", which begins Sept. 7 in Vancouver.

However, the Island Def Jam spokesperson says the label "has nothing to do with Janet's tour."

Re: Miss Janet gets nasty with her record company

I heard about that. Very Dramatic and shady of her label not to push her record.

Re: Miss Janet gets nasty with her record company

I have been discussing this on various music forums, etc.

The album is my favorite this year. I am a huge Janet fan, and this was shady. LUV was a fan favorite, and could have been a huge hit.

The label really messed the project up.

Re: Miss Janet gets nasty with her record company

It's ALWAYS been about the money. The record label is a business. They try to maximize profits. They obviously spent a good chunk of change on promoting her first couple of singles - the videos and appearances attest to that. If that's the highest she could chart with them, and all the copies they could sell, then it makes perfect sense to stop promoting. There comes a time to (as they say) "stop throwing good money after bad". One can argue forever about when that point is reached, but it's no surprise that Island/Def Jam feels they've reached it.

And it's Janet. Miss JACKSON if you're nasty.

Re: Miss Janet gets nasty with her record company

Hmm ... it does seem like that their goal was to make her album #1 and then drop off once they didn't agree. She did no promo at all, only the week of the album release and then that was it. Usually, she's all over the place until about now and then tour preps. It's been an interesting era

Re: Miss Janet gets nasty with her record company

I'd like for her to go back to Jam and Lewis producing her entire albums. I didn't realized how perfect their combination was until she started working with different people. The thing about Jam and Lewis too is that they gave every album it's own unique sound

As for Janet's popularity. She's already a legend and has sold an insane amount of albums. And most every legend goes though a period where people ignore them. Doesn't make them any less of a legend.

Re: Miss Janet gets nasty with her record company

I agree. Janet needs to team back with Jimmy and Terry because Dupri and Company are not cuttin it. I had a feeling that things were going to go this way when she switched labels.

Re: Miss Janet gets nasty with her record company

poor Janet I like her a lot but her last few cd's just didnt seem that great to me maybe she needs some new producers other than jiimy jam and terry lewis there formula is kind of played

You know, I was thinking that...Jimmy and Terry know Janet better than the other producers. She needs to start writing her own songs like she did back then. That seemed to stop with All For You. She's not deep as she used to be. The Jam and Lewis sound is the Janet sound. She used to be known for her own sound.

Re: Miss Janet gets nasty with her record company

Janet's #1 Fan is right here....

The Janet vs. IDJ situation has been obvious since "Feedback' leaked. Promotion has been horrible, radio is ignoring Janet, and she hasn't gone overseas (except for a three-day visit to Japan).

Everything has been a misstep, so Janet should avoid the studio for a while. Instead, she needs to reach out to music lovers around the world and expose the music herself, re-introduce herself, and tour non-stop. Tour all the way until 2010.
