The JUB Awards 2007 - Updates

Re: The JUB Awards 2007

sure

why not

just remember two things....

the anti popularity crowd is going to flame the hell out of you

and

dont allow any campaigning

Re: The JUB Awards 2007

I'd better win something. I entered Puka's contest, and he didn't notice my entry, so he started without me.

Gr.

Re: The JUB Awards 2007

Here's my reply! I like the idea.

I doubt I will win anything tho, as I am bound to be stomped on by more popular people

Re: The JUB Awards 2007

May I suggest a JUBBY category for best cartoon avatar?;)

Re: The JUB Awards 2007

And one for the longest lasting thread?
I kind of have a fetish for lasting threads

Then perhaps a rule ..... no nominating the same Jubber in more than one category?

Might broaden things out a bit.

Could be fun ..... and there's always the IGNORE function for those who don't like it.

Re: The JUB Awards 2007

Why isn't Elvin nominated?
And RRRalph?
And Rational Lunacy?

Do you just live in a perpetual state of jealousy 24/7? Can't you put aside your pettiness for just a minute, and give due to the people who actually make this board a warm and loving place? No, of course not - you've got your damned axes to grind.

I swear to God, I am THIS close to deleting my account.

...

...just warming up.

I personally have a very flirtatious member. Do I win?

That sounds like an excellent idea. If there are a lot of categories, especially, since that means more for the rest of the members.

As for the flamers... I don't care. In the real world, you have popular people and unpopular people. In the real world, I'm usually seen as 'filler', that only a few people really like, and that has no apparent personality. I just deal with it, and if I'm popular, at least I'm popular on the basis of my opinions and what I say, rather than my looks, because you can't effectively gauge someone's looks on the basis of a couple of photos.

Elvin isn't popular simply because he's hot. He's popular because he's an incredibly nice guy with time for everyone.
Rational Lunacy is popular because he's funny and sarcastic.
RRRalph isn't popular because he's hot either - hell, I've only ever seen his face. I think hotness involves body just as much as face. For all I know, if I met him, I wouldn't find him all that hot. I have no idea. The signs are good for him, but I don't know beyond that. I like what I've seen in his posts.

It's that simple.

Is popularity based on your post quality honestly such a bad thing? You're being judged on your personality. That's surely not bad, and if you don't win, then put more thought into a post before you make it.

Either way, categories.

Best threadsmith. I'll nominate Riverrick, for providing some of my favourite jub memories.
Turbo-poster. I'll nominate Piggyman. NEN.
I'd nominate Dreu for the flirting one.
Most sarcastic Jubber: I'd nominate RL.
Best debater. No idea who I'd nominate.

Etc.

Perhaps, if a Jubber is ideal for two categories, then you could ask the Jubber which category they want to participate in?

Re: The JUB Awards 2007

I'll be the dissenting vote.

Yes these threads can be fun for some, but not usually fun for the larger group.

It is usually the same well known posters involved in all threads like these.

The lesser known posters then feel more alienated from JUB.

i think it is a superb idea - but would like to suggest the nominations be secret - just like they do with the emmys, the academy awards, and the tony awards.

the nominations could be sent to you privately or if there is a way of making the nominations without them being seen in the forums then that might work.

we have the ability to do this as it is done with infractions - where by only the given member sees them.

just some comments from the local village idiot. ](*,)

eM. :(

Re: The JUB Awards 2007

I would like to nominate Riverrick for the Best use of Smilies in a supporting role.

I would nominate Riverrick for "friendliest", or is that the same thing?

Shouldn't there be categories for biggest slut (or would that be biggest post whore)? And how about "Most Abstruse"?

Re: The JUB Awards 2007

=
I'd nominate Dreu for the flirting one.

i just noticed this !oops!

I'm having a hard enough time getting the thread-prefixes reinstated in Current Events & Politics, and you're suggesting altering the website for private nominations?

robbieadam, logistically speaking, the best way that I can think of to facilitate such an award process would be to submit a single nomination category as a thread, let the members nominate the members for that category, then have that thread closed by the Mod Team at a date of your choosing. Then you can tally the votes at the close of that balloting to arrive at a winner.

"Popularity Threads" tend to alienate members who are of equal importance and value as members to everyone here, and when other's step up and start actively campaigning for a vote in those threads becomes a PITA to the Mod Team, because then that member is "hijacking" someone else's threads for attention.

So you might put that in your conditions for voting:

Anyone caught actively campaigning/lobbying for votes to be nominated in that position will be disqualified. ;)

But other than those provisions, it sounds like it could be fun. :D

Perhaps a Poll Thread first, to allow the members to pick a category that they'd most like to vote/nominate in.

In a Poll Thread, you're allowed 10 categories to choose from. :)

Save yourself the trouble and read Lex's post.

Re: The JUB Awards 2007

Overall so far, 15 people have shown interest. As I said I need at least 75 so I'll give it until Sunday/Monday. I really should have included a poll with this thread so that I could get an exact number.

I was thinking and I believe that the best way to nominate would be to PM me with a list of the categories with your nominations for each alongside. If I get enough interest I will inform you when to begin nominating. If anyone disagrees with this method or can think of a more appropriate way (bearing in mind that I would prefer to keep the whole thing in this one thread) don't hesitate to post.
