Judge Denies Trump Request to pause fraud judgment [SPLIT]

Too bad she can only go after properties in NY State. There's another nearby property in New Jersey...

She can go after properties anywhere.

Full Faith and credit?

It'll take a while for that to happen. Like-post election.
Exactly. The Court gave Trump 30 days to appeal. Technically, James could have started seizing assets in NY state immediately but she has given Trump 30 days to post the appeal bond.

Because there is a judgment in NY, all James would have to do is send a marshall to a NY bank or a NY property to seize that asset. Going after properties in other States (called "domesticating a judgment") requires due process and compliance with that State's laws regarding asset seizure. The process can take some time, so James will likely go after NY properties before trying to go after assets in other States.

I'd bet all of Toad's fantasy billions that there is no money left in New York or possibly the country. That's the first thing I would have done.

Fortunately, in Nov, 2022 Engoron had installed a former judge in to oversee the day-to-day operations at the Trump Org, likely in anticipation of their attempts to conceal money and assets. After the judgment, he assigned her to continue monitoring them for 3 years.

Well... and immediately they tried to redomicile some properties and operations elsewhare to shield assets.

Although in the end, just funneling everything to Florida seems like a stupid choice since New York's reach extends to there.

His shady bankers are in Europe somewhere. The moment I committed that fraud, I'd have started moving money to hard-to-find places.

I am sure that his golf course in Scotland is now flush with cash.

Just watch. An Appeals Court will give him more time...because he is white and rich.
Rareboy called this one:

A panel of state appeals judges gave Donald Trump a significant reprieve Monday by lowering the amount of the bond he must post to stop enforcement of a $454 million civil judgment for corporate fraud.

Trump can post a bond of just $175 million while he appeals the verdict, the five-judge panel ruled in a terse order, after the former president said he couldn’t obtain a bond to cover the full judgment.

The ruling came on the last day of a 30-day grace period Attorney General Tish James granted Trump before she said she would begin to collect on the judgment, which could involve seizing his assets.

The appellate panel gave Trump 10 days to post the reduced bond. Speaking to reporters shortly after the ruling was issued, the former president said he plans to do just that.

We'll see if the NY Attorney General appeals the decision to reduce an appeal bond since it sounds like there wasn't a legal reasoning provided by the Appeals Court.

As I noted in the other thread...they are sending a direct signal that the final judgment will come in at less than 175 million.

No question he will be able to post this one.

Letitia James seizing his assets was just a wet dream.

The Sorrrows of Cheeto Jeezus: he's having to cancel campaign events for lack of funds.

According to a new CNN report, Trump was planning to hold a rally in Arizona last weekend, on the same day he rallied in Ohio to support his endorsed Senate candidate Bernie Moreno, but backed out at the last minute...

"Trump had been looking at a trip to the state – which went for Biden by just 10,457 votes in 2020 – for last weekend, the same day as his Ohio rally. But those plans were scrapped after clinching the presidential nomination, with two sources citing a desire to save money and attend a more politically advantageous event in Ohio rallying for Moreno."...

The Trump campaign is being significantly outraised by the Biden campaign and has faced other complications, including warnings from the Federal Election Commission to stop accepting illegal contributions, as Raw Story exclusively reported last month.

We'll see.

Of course any venue would be fucking nuts to book his event without getting payment in cash up front.

The State is asking for more details of the bond to make sure that it is secured by sufficient assets. This means they will likely get to see what assets Trump used.

And to see if they are over-valued :rotflmao:

There were complaints in 2020 that Trump's campaign didn't pay for events at his Fan Rallies.

I think it is one of the reasons that his venues are getting smaller and smaller.

He can no longer use the office of President to bully cities into giving him an arena now and I suspect that he doesn't want to because the crowds aren't going to turn up for him in big numbers like 2016 or even 2020.

His real estate holdings are worth at least $464 million...although who knows...maybe not much more, but certainly that much.

And the stuff TrumpCo. gave to the Sauds got Jared $2 billion to play with.

He now becomes the highest stakes security risk in the US and don't think that he isn't leveraging his upcoming access to secret docs to try to cover the spread.
What's the status of the January 6 riot indictment?
