I was just thinking. Were would we be today if Trump had never been elected president?

Would there be all the anti-vaxx anti-mask chaos that we're dealing with? Would there be all the airline violence? Would there be all the street protest violence. Would there be people drinking bleach and chowing down on Ivermectin? Would the future of the United States be in jeopardy?

Here in Canada, our Conservatives have become more and more like Republicans these past few years. A few have even called themselves Republicans. Ontario's premier, Doug Ford, was elected after Trump and was a Trump wannabe. Alberta's premier, Jason Kennedy, has been running the province like Rick DeSantis runs Florida. Covid is rampant, the Alberta health care system is near complete collapse, and his popularity ratings dropped lower than Trump's in a matter of a week or two. (Alberta is a Conservative province.) Anti-vaxx anti-mask protesters have been blocking entry into hospitals and blocking traffic. Our politicians have been threatened and Prime Minister Trudeau and those around him were pelted with gravel.

There is no question in my mind that Donald Trump is directly responsible for what is going on in both Canada and the United States.

Do you have any thoughts on this?

If Trump had not been elected that means that Hillary Clinton would have been elected. There were enough people who disliked Hillary who would have been disruptive. I would like to think that things would have been better, but not sure about that.

If Hillary had won the republicans would have used her four years to turn every little thing she did into a scandal just like they did in the 90's and tried to do in the Obama years. It's probably not a fair comparison to say that Fox news hair would have been on fire the entire time like CNN, and MSNBC'S was because there were actual criminals running the government. Plus there WAS collusion! Most likely they would have tried to impeach her over something.

The sad fact is that no matter what happened in 2016 the republican party was going to end up as batshit crazy as it is now regardless. It may have taken a little longer, but it was going to happen. Stupid was not ever going to be a gracious loser. He would still have access to social media and would have been on Twitter everyday criticizing, and phoning into Fox every other day. He would have tried to run again in 2020 and did just what he untimely did when he lost this time. Say it was rigged and stolen from him. Just like he said in 16' when everyone on his campaign thought he was going to lose. Even the candidate himself!

Most importantly though Covid would have been handled differently from the very beginning and that would have kept hundreds of thousands alive today. I think she would have been reelected, but probably with a republican house and senate.

We would have been spared a lot of anxiety.

And very definitely, the COVID crisis would have been much less severe in the US and the backward parts of Canada.

Trump turned over every rock and let loose the very worst of us. His racist rant as he rode down that escalator in 2015 was a call to arms for every repressed uneducated and ignorant bigot that had been stewing witn quiet rage since the sixties. I truly believe that initially, it was all about racism. Bursting onto the political scene with a racist diatribe about Mexicans was, frankly, brilliant, but, based on their behavior in the ensuing five years, I doubt he or any of his advisers and cronies knew just how brilliant it was.

Imagine if he had won a second term. How would you contain your outrage? Could you have made it through four more years?

Now imagine you're a vehemently racist God fearing lardass from Kentucky having to deal with a black man as leader of the free world. An arrogant black man at that. These people were raging like Coke bottles in a paint shaker. When Trump appeared before their squinty 15 watt eyes he was pretty much unscrewing their lids. Like the Good Witch singing come out come out wherever you are. For me, that's his legacy: uncovering the dark, hateful underbelly of America. Giving them a platform. Giving them power. Moreso his fellow politicians: It's okay! Do your worst! The people are behind you!
I agree that eventually Republicans would have slid into batshit crazy land eventually, but Trump accelerated the process. Worse, he legitimized it. It's going to be a long time before all those creepy crawlies are driven back under their rocks, and being that The End Is Nigh, we may never see them go. Think their behavior was bad last year when they couldn't get their hair cut or go to the mall? How do you think they will deal with more product shortages, natural disasters and the inevitable flood of refugees, economic collapse and lack of access to water and food that will surely become commonplace in the coming years? It's a good time to be old: I wouldn't want to be twenty years old again for anything.

Quoted for truth. Even 80 years on, Germany and Austria haven't fully suppressed or eradicated the full blown NAZIs.

I don't thin America is ever going to come back from the Trump cult mania. They are busy teaching their children. And convinced they are in the End Times.

There were nazis before Hitler, they just weren't called nazis. Every society has its share of the irrevocably hateful. Still, you're probably right. The stain of Trumpism has set. Just another thing we'll have to deal with until climate change renders politics irrelevant.

And we're already entering the End Times. Just not the biblical kind.

If God created the world, what would he have to say about what we've done to/with it?

Maybe that's why he sent us Marjorie Taylor Greene.

Haha. Good one, Lord. Fuck you.

The Republican party has been racist as fuck for decades. The toad had no plan, his only genius was being racist as fuck himself. The horde follow him because they recognize their own. Someone was going to be the toad, if not him, some other bigot.

Then he got in because of our racist as fuck antique system and started stealing. When as a party one's primary policy objective is being racist as fuck, one is easily manipulated.

Even if Hillary had been elected the racists were going to try and destroy the system, because it's wandered too far away from racist as fuck, and they are whining, sniveling, petty little people, too insipid and entitled to accept anything besides being perpetually coddled.

Like the toddlers they are, they don't want to share and were going to have their tantrum, and if they don't get to rape who they want, fuck over who they want, take what they want, then no one can have anything at all.
