On-Topic Just Another Dumb, Racist-tinged Remark in Ohio: About the Early Voting Problem

paraplegics are EXCEPTIONS

neighbors of said paraplegic should drive him/her - that'd be neighborly

your analogy is WAY OFF

I don't want anyone who is eligible to vote to not vote - for me it's not about suppression - it's about upholding the integrity of the voting

people shouldn't vote 2x
they should be registered
they should be able to prove they are who they are

and i don't understand the idea of lots of days to vote

Reheheally? As aforementioned by folks, the Republican Party would NEVER EVER [STRIKE]get back together[/STRIKE] win an election again if ur wish came true given young people and minorities (and paraplegics ;)) are the groups that don't vote.

In terms of the ID stuff, I kind of agree that on a very simplistic, superficial level, it hypothetically makes sense in an ideal fantasy world to have this requirement. Unfortunately, we live on Planet Reality where this doesn't work, because:
A) The solution to this problem is to ensure the poor and otherwise disadvantaged have ID's, which happens to be a tad expensive (at least to do so correctly in a way that is fair and equitable) and would assume that Republicans are...
B) actually willing to pay for something to fix one of their supposed problems and...
C.) actually willing to pay for something that helps the poor and...
D.) willing to do something that is political suicide.
E.) And, of course, there still is not any legitimate evidence that voter fraud is a serious issue.

WELL!!!! I haven't been around here all that much this week but I'm catching up on all the dish. Let me just say, I have NO idea who this 'Boston Pirate' guy is and I don't remember his time here previously but I AM LOVING the way he is shaking things up!

Making the effort to vote is not a big problem.

There are so many avenues open for people who really want to vote.

What else to lazy voters want -- limos to the polls?

Yeah, according to Jack's logic, wanting gay people to have equal rights makes me "heterophobic".

And, voting is one area where conservatives cannot pull their "reverse racism" nonsense; there is simply TOO MUCH history and legislative precedence dealing with this issue. (Though they somehow will anyway...)

No

they just don't want to be kicked off the voting register for a GOP fantasy.

This is so much sewer dredging.

But if someone has transportation issues, why not? If there is a sacramental act of democracy, it's voting, and every effort should be made to help everyone eligible to do so.

It doesn't mean that people have to be pampered and pleaded with to vote.

Any voter has to make an effort to vote -- just like you have to make an effort to get up in the morning ... your feet have to hit the floor and you start moving.

All those services cost money so there must be a balancing. As usual the people wanting the most accomodations pay nothing in taxes and want someone else to pay for their special wishes.

^Benvolio, where do you go to vote in American politics? Picardy or Champagne-Ardenne? Où allez-vous voter? C'est bon?

The only upside to this and the voter ID farce is people know about and can at least be proactive about it. I'm sure there will be people who will not be able to vote because of it but we are still a few months out and many can get ID's, especially the college students. It will be hard on the elderly who have never driven or have been housewives all their lives, they will have have to find other ways. Anyone with common sense can see it's a ploy to suppress voters. I've seen numerous reports where they have found 10 cases of voter fraud since 2000, that is 10 out of the millions of voters. And if this was a concern, then why now all of a sudden is it an issue, its not like the people who been voting w/o license haven't been doing it for years or decades and obviously they have found a way at the ballot box to verify them. I know we will be hearing that guy, senator or whoever he is, that said they have helped install the voter ID law to help Mittens win Pennsylvania.

Justdra That is all this current protection the republican party has offered equates to in the end -- poll exclusion. There is no other rationale.

Of course it is. I've never seen millions if criminals committing fraud in order to vote. Voter fraud in our history comes from within the parties, not the populace.

If someone walks in, shows no ID, asks for the ballot of a dead person still on the list, votes and walks out, what evidence would he create.

If there is no evidence, how do you know that ever happened.

You wouldn't, you couldn't, so how do you know you're not just imagining what you've been told to believe.

You don't.

And before you howl about dead people voting,

PROOF FIRST.

Wingnuttery second.
