But in the case of the guy (the librarian was a woman that I meet almost daily) it was sad because it seemed he wrote the bits himself. Maybe he just wasn't as used as me,for example, to the thought that what he may be writing is not just substandard, but simply unintelligible.

AS for the other person, well, to tell you that she admires Paulo Coelho... so no wonder she may be convinced that ANYONE would "know" (term she used) less than Manent about translating... yeah, know about making Dickinson sound in Spanish like a pale parody of classical Spanish prosody. Well just a quick browse through some of your recent posts and others comments will prove you wrong again. But alas, I pick and choose my battles. I don't debate and dribble out responses to every comment I read. If that is wrong use, then so be it.
