These are really starting to bug me. They've set up colony in some of the large pots of plants I have at work where they tend to the aphids they have somehow installed on my plants. @#$%##@@^&**:grrr:

I went shopping today and decided to take my camera just to show you the backdrop to the local town.

The group of houses under the cliff face are named "Le Petit Afrique" due to the micro-climate allowing them to grow most exotic plants found in Africa.

On the subject of ships ... this is the new ship that will provide 3 daily round trips between Vienna, Austria and Bratislava, Slovakia. The trip takes 75 minutes. The maiden voyage is 01 June 06.

The first skyscraper ever built in Europe was in 1898 in Rotterdam. It's called The White House and is 43 meters high. Surprisingly it survived the bombing of Rotterdam on may 15th 1940. The center of Rotterdam was completely destroyed.

Delftse Poort I, the tallest building in Rotterdam and The Netherlands - 151 meters/495 feet high and 41 stories. In front of it is Delftse Poort II - 93 meters/305 feet and 25 stories

Thanks buzzj :D

Here are a few more of Rotterdam, my favourite city in the Netherlands. It's called Manhattan on the Maas (a river that flows through the city) and is in my opinion one of the most exciting cities in Holland as far as modern architecture and high rise buildings is concerned.
Rotterdammers have the knack of giving certain buildings a nickname.
This one is called the pencil. In front of it is the entrance to the subway and train station Blaak, affectionally named the kettle. The roof of the building is lowered each night after the last train departs, sealing off the station.

The Cube Houses, designed by Piet Blom in the 1980's.

I wish I had been there a bit sooner in the day when I was in Rotterdam last year. One of them is open to the public so you can get an idea of what living in one must be like. I'll have to go back :D
