I know it's selfish, but I hate that my friends make me justify the fact that, on my first day off after a 45-50 hour work week, all I want to do is play video games, not get out of my PJ's, and not be bothered all day.

I'm an introvert; after 16 years you'd think they'd know to not be offended when I just want to spend a day by myself.

You're not alone, bro! (*8*)

My day starts at 8pm in the evening.

8.00pm - Wake up, brush my teeth, get dressed, and get out the door by 8.25.
8.25pm - Walk to bus stop, the next street over from my apartment - not a far walk, but still.
8.35pm - Transit to my supermarket job.
9.20-9.30pm - Arrive at my store, Have breakfast before I'm due to clock in at 10pm.
10pm-7am - Work with an hour lunch I usually use for a nap.
7am - Depending on whether one of our assistant managers makes us all stay late (and on Monday and Wednesday, I have a college class 10.30am to 11.50am), I'm either stuck with 1 to 2 hours of downtime at my school, waiting for my class to start, that I cannot use, on schooldays. Or, I go to my friends' apartment and housekeep (usually takes 1 to 2 hours a day to get everything done). On non-school days, I can just go straight to my friends' place, do my housekeeping job, and go home, usually about roughly 10 or 11am, take a shower and go to bed.

If it is a school day, getting out late at my supermarket means I am stuck with the downtime at my school, because going back to my friends' place, I wouldn't make it back in time for my class. So there's the downtime in the college café that I really just lose, because I can't go anywhere. That means, on school days, my housekeeping has to wait until I make it back from class, usually about 1.20pm. I take care of my housekeeping job, and make it back to my place by about 3 or 3.30pm. I shower and get to bed as quick as I can, because the next day for me is just 4 to 5 hours away at 8pm that night.

Plus even on non-school days, when I don't have class, basically with the housekeeping job, I'm more or less salaried - Which means if they need me to ride with them or do other extra stuff they want done, that's added time right there that takes away from my sleep, as well.

Now, when you factor in the amount of time I have to ride the bus to get from A to B, the time I'm forced to just lose, due to getting off late at my supermarket, the time I housekeep, there are some days where I'm literally putting in 18 to 20 hour days consecutively. I have almost Zero personal time for myself, quite literally - I might get time to do my laundry, I mostly live off of eating out due to it taking too much time and energy (which I have neither) to cook my own food. If I have any free time at all to myself, it's usually the middle of the night on my off nights from my supermarket.

Oh, and the best part - to work like I do, how much do I get paid for all of this. The housekeeping job - $250/month, which is actually really good, considering. But my overnight job at the supermarket, making $9.20/per hour, I ran these numbers.

I get paid every two weeks from my store, and the checks - after taxes and health insurance - usually run roughly $520. $520 x 2 = $1,040 per month. Add in the $250 per month from my housekeeping job = $1,290 per month that I take in. Times 12 months = a total take-home annual salary of $15,480.

If you round that $520 from my supermarket down to $500, because my hours do vary, rarely, but sometimes they do. On a projection of $500 x 2 = $1,000/month + $250/month from housekeeping = $1,250/month x 12 months = $15,000 per year.

So to work like a dog like I do, I make barely above the poverty line for just one person living by themselves. ..| Gotta love being a proud member of the working poor. :)

thanks, guys.

I'm just meeting a shit ton of 'road blocks' right now, and it's really hurting my morale about a number of things. I hate depending on other people to get things done.

It's fabulous being self-sufficient, but unfortunately...life doesn't always make it that simple.

Just remember... it could always be worse. ;)

Oddly enough, I've been going through the exact same thing, and it does get demoralizing at times. Sometimes I feel like I'm making progress, and other times, I'm like a Dodge Ram spinning its wheels in the mud, going nowhere fast.

Hugs, bro! (*8*) (*8*) ..|

So sorry to hear that :( (*8*)

On a sad not I think I have bed bugs fukkkkkkkkkk! I killed off some bugs I found on the bed and the walls. Have been noticing spots and rashes (minor) these week. I can't believe my luck seems like all the apartments I pick all have bugs of some sort

I kinda like the steam idea.

There are ways to combat these bugs without putting you or your family in harm's way. All you need is to educate yourself on how to get rid of these invaders using an arsenal of "weapons" that are readily available in your kitchen. So here the tips on how to kill these blood suckers naturally:

Tip No. 1: Use Low or High Temperature

You can get rid of bed bugs by exposing them to a low or high temperature. But it is more recommended to expose these bugs to high temperature to kill them and their eggs and to prevent them from spreading any further.

You can use steam vapor cleaning as a way to expose these pests to high temperatures. They reside not only in mattress and beddings but also in carpets, curtains, walls, and anywhere where they can have a foothold. They can be removed by steam cleaning the mattress, carpet, curtains. It is also recommended to wash all beddings or any infected clothes or items.

Tip No. 2: Use a Vacuum, Hair Dryer or Flat Iron

Another tip on how to kill these critters naturally is by simple vacuuming. It will help you remove or limit the threat of bed bugs. Hair dryers on high heat can also be used to kill bed bugs found on mattresses. Homeowners also rely on flat irons to expose the bed bugs to high temperature. You have to make sure that the bugs will be exposed to high temperature, which instantly prevents them the opportunity to scatter and survive.

Tip No. 3: Use Tea Tree Oil

Another option is to make a mixture of tea tree oil and water in a spray bottle. The mixture should be misted to your mattress and carpet and other areas where bed bugs reside. Combined with heat, the effectiveness of this method will be greatly enhanced.

You can get a steamer like this pretty cheaply.

^ I have been researching a bit and came to think it's a pretty good cleaning investment too. Will hit the mall tmrw to see if I can find a good deal. I could be over paranoid, but my skin don't lie :( so I might sent the bug samples I caught to the lab in a medical college in another city.

CAn you take good, close up pictures of them?

Hehe :p Don't have a scanner sadly. Ah but I think my college has. Gonna scan it tmrw if possible >-< I dismissed my old specimen because the doctor doesn't think they are fleas. But then mist doctors don't study in-depth parasitology so she could be wrong.

Bed Bugs and Fleas are two separate species... but both are after your blood. Eat more garlic. ;)

Both equally frustrating and annoying  Yeah been including them into my diet. Been wondering If I should start drinking as I heard they don't target smokers or drinkers less than those who are clean.

This was informative/interesting.

Do you have an air conditioner? I liked the moats on the bed posts. I did something similar to keep ants out of the cat's food dishes.

I assume you sleep in a typical bed... maybe you should use a cot for a while instead, with moated legs?

Do you live by yourself? I wonder if anyone else has noticed them in their rooms. What borg brought up was a good idea. Another option is maybe pest control?

Good luck.(*8*)

@borg

I was thinking of casing my beds for a while. Not sure where to buy them tho. The bed is wood, I suspect this is actually one of the causes because throughout the last 20 years, my parents always bought steel beds and we never had bug problems. I was asking my friend if he could buy me a new bed since it's his house (apartment). Not much bites ytd as I ironed the bed with iron lol. Still some itch here and there :(

x_X Oh, God. I know a lot of college campuses are dealing with them. I read an article that said they are spreading through library books...people reading in bed. You're in school studying 3D animation too, right? I feel like you told me that before.

If I had to vent about something I guess I'd say that sometimes the happiest love songs actually make me sad. There also isn't enough time in the day.

Yeah I think a lot of places has them just probably didn't know. It could be just me I but I think apartments or high rises tend to have them more so than houses. Also odd that some really old buildings not necessarily has them. Back in my first year I lived in a really old building (rented) like almost 60 years and I never have a single bug problem not even ants lol. Current one is only about 15 years old I think yet it has bed bugs also is a friend's place.

Good luck.(*8*)

I do have a housemate. She did mentioned she had some bug problems b4 (not sure if it's bed bugs though). She works as an event organizer so she travels a lot. I suspect she caught them from some hotel somewhere because I have visited and sleepover my this friend's plcae few times in the past and never really had such problems. Yeah was thinking of asking of pest control if it gets too out of hand :(

I'm an asshole :( turns out that the friend I was complaining about wanting to have lunch with me on Thursday wanted someone to talk with about her mom getting diagnosed with cancer.

so, lunch it is! and no complaints from me about wanting to spend the day in my underwear.

Better late than never.

Some days/weeks/months seem definitely like this.

It is frustrating not to have everyone going in the same direction and supporting what you are trying to achieve....and I can guarantee you that this will never change. So, in order to keep others' failures from making you crazy, you need to develop personal strategies to help you move around and beyond them. Including figuring out how to shrug off setbacks and how to move around any obstacle.

When you figure it out, let me know. Because I've been working on it for about 35 years.
