OK, yeah, cigarette compliance is a huge friggin' deal - I get it. And violations that are proven call for immediate firing with a non-rehire status - she can never ever work for this company ever again. I get that, too - Honey, you screwed up way badly and we need to talk about this. But in this particular case, couldn't you have at lease waited until the poor woman came back from foot surgery, and came back off of medical leave? Couldn't you have waited until then to fire up the gallows? There was a humane way - a decent way - to go about firing this woman. And this was not it. Not at all. This was a very big thing done very, very badly. I, for one, am ashamed. Straight up ashamed.

If the foot thing was work related, your company would get a huge ding on their insurance record for a time loss work accident - at least if it was in my state. Your company would need to pay her to NOT work for a very long time. Where I work, time loss accidents are huge, and something we try VERY hard to avoid, even if it means the employee just sits there and organizes papers.

The vent thread II

Well as some Jubbers have expressed their wish to go on venting and the closing of the last one having little to do to actual benign vent, I attempt to make a resuscitation :)

My current vent : the ugly homophobes who are raising their heads nowadays in France, make me want (almost) to take an axe and behead some :)

Re: The vent thread II

MUTHA FUCKAs that do 60 mph in the left lane of a 75mph hwy.......

That's actually illegal in MA, especially on the Mass Pike aka I-90. I could divulge into esoteric road rules in MA but I won't.

I had to deal with a severe allergy attack this past week [it's something that that is going around hardcore with all the pollen] and now that my symptoms have subsided, it's time for booze.

But yeah.. here's my car-related vent... People who don't use their turn signals because "I know where I'm going." Exactly, fool, they're there to tell us where the fack you're going! >.<

Re: The vent thread II

They're the scourge of your country.

Take solace knowing that they're on the losing side of that battle.

Thanks, it's true. But because of the very low level of the debate, % have fallen since the beginning of it. The right extremists have succeeded in convincing people that it's bad for children to be adopted b gay people :(
The moment of it is also worrying, the government is extremely low on opinion pools and French people would want to say no to anything it may propose, whatever that may be :(

I don't usually curse, but when I drive and I see people not signaling their turn some bad mouthed words are expressed rather loudly :)

Re: The vent thread II

Such a highway exists???

Your tongue speaks of lies! Here, there are only 55 mph highways. I risk getting pulled over for going 75..but you get to go 75 mph without worries. Lucky..

Talking about idiosyncrasies of MA law: on 128 during rush hour, it is legal to drive in breakdown lane. Due to how MA law is written, outside of school or work zones, you can legally go up to 10mph over the speed limit without getting a ticket. So when the speed limit reads 65mph, in actuality, it is 75mph. We even have one of the most lenient speeding laws in the country if you know your algebra. The fee being "10x+100" with x being the MPH for every MPH over the 10MPH limit. The '100' is the flat 10MPH buffer which still breaks down to $10/mi but w/e. For example, if you were going 90 in a 65 zone, the equation would be 10(90-75)+100= $250.

For those on metric: 90mph ~= 145 kph.

Re: The vent thread II

The Sequel?

You need to at least give it a movie-sounding title.

I suggest....

Vent Thread II: The Wrath of Corny

Maryland only has 55 mph highways still? Damn...at least we have 65 mph ones here in California.

That's like highway 5 here. People typically go 80 mph in the left lane without any trouble. If you want to go 75 mph...you should move over into the "slow" lane. Granted, the section I'm referring to is definitely more country-like.

I know I miss the "Stay to the right" signs and the enforcement... the other Kansas-Missouri traffic bitch is :

You know the big fat white line that you are to stop behind?? Most folks here put it on their bumper... I have watched folks sit through a light because they cant understand why they arent setting off the weight signal to turn left.... it is amusing and sad....

In most places you can do five to ten over.... I got pulled in Texas at 90 because I was five over. The cop said " I know everyone else think it is ok to speed a little.... 85 is good enough... dont speed"

His fifteen minute stop put me right into the teeth of two tornadic storms that were shitting out softball sized hail... so three thousand dollars worth of truck repairs later.... most costly traffic stop I ever was subjected to....

Isn't this the third venting thread?

Yup and hopefully it will stay venting on topics and not venting about jubbers or past perceived moderation mistakes.... but I have faith it will devolve.... or fear... meh

I hate the people that will pass me while we are in the right lane, get in front of me to turn right (also happens in the left lane to turn left) and we haven't driven maybe 500 feet.

I'm tired of talking to guys that cannot hold up their end of a conversation. I hate feeling like I'm thinking for two and directing 'discussions' x_X.

Maybe they don't like the conversation and a change of subject would help?

You can get a ticket for driving to slow, you're impeding the flow of traffic. I guess how slow is too slow would be up to the cop writing the ticket.

I yell at those people all the time, especially those that wait until the last minute to turn, or take forever to get over in the turning lane.

Re: The vent thread II

Since there is usually 50 plus miles between towns here in SD, we have to drive 75 or more just to get anywhere in a decent amount of time. I will get on someones ass if they are only going 60 in the left lane till they move over!!!!
