Re: Kanye West

While the cinematography (particularly the forest shots) was breathtaking; for the most part I thought the Runaway clip was a 30 minute love letter to himself. An excuse to show the world how supremely artistic and revolutionary he thinks he is. But imho, Runaway was pretentious, overwrought and stupid. I missed the "genius" and the "art" in that clip. Runaway is what you get when you have a guy with too much money and ego and who's seen one too many Fellini acid films for his own good.

However the music was good. Nothing career defining, but the soundtrack was alot more enjoyable to listen to than watching the film it was made for.

I agree completely, up until the part about the music being good. I mean, this album isn't bad....it's just very, very 'blah'. He's an example of how success is granted to those who force-feed their 'greatness' onto the public. It's hilarious to me how people give this ass-clown so much credit for being an artiste, when he does nothing more than expose the masses to real innovators in the art world. He's a human blog. A culture vulture.

Re: Kanye West

I agree that Dark Twisted Fantasy is just merely okay. It's surely not the masterpiece he intended it to be. Most of the songs on the album go on past the time that they should end. Off of the top of my head, the album versions of "Blame Game", "Runaway" and "Gorgeous" should be about three minutes shorter than they are on the LP. It seems like he didn't have any kind of editor at all for this album. The same with the film, he tried to fit as many ideas, guest artists and musical gimmicks into a song as possible. And as the listener, he came across as lost in most of the tracks. Whatever message he was trying to sell and convey got muddled in all of the guitar riffs, piano keys and Nicki Minaj verses. The desperation of him wanting people to laud him as a musical virtuoso comes across all too clear on the new album.

But it's an okay album imo. I'm stunned the reviews for it have been raves..I think Entertainment Weekly declared Fantasy as being a better album that Late Registration. (*S*) Umm...how about, no? lol

Again, I agree completely. You can tell that the album and the film had good ideas behind them, but the execution comes off very clumsy and heavy-handed. It's pretty clear there's no one in his circle that's brave enough to tell him "no". I want to like this guy because I feel like his intentions are good, but if there was ever someone in need of a mentor, it's him.

Re: Kanye West Nude Photos For Sale

if anything, i'd just be interested to see if his cock matched that "big ego" he kept talking about in the song he did with beyonce. hahahah

Re: Kanye West Nude Photos For Sale

People don't think he's ugly cause he's black. They think he's ugly because he's ugly. They don't find him disgusting cause he's black they find him disgusting because of Taylor Swift and other bullshit like that. And racist people do not let black men fuck them, lol. Ridiculous.

"I can't stand Nicki Minaj but I love her cartoony, faux-British narration at the beginning of this song. She's so ridiculous, I can't help but to crack a smile while listening."

Re: Kanye West

You're welcome, miaedu. You can listen to My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy in it's entirety here:http://soundcloud.com/spa_water/sets :)

I'm guessing there's a time limit??? I listened to part of the album earlier this afternoon, but I didn't have enough time to finish listening. I was just listening to the rest, then it stopped suddenly and I can no longer listen to the tracks.

Re: Kanye West

I picked up Kanye's album for $.99 since Amazon was having a sale. Wasn't really expecting much considering his last CD was horrible. I was actually really surprised. There are some good tracks but I still think his first few albums were the best.

Re: Kanye West

Kanye West at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade

We want his float to be used as a new medium through which he can express the exact same aesthetic that was in the "Runaway" video: explosions/pyrotechnics, ballerinas, beautiful women in feathers. In case you forgot, the video features a giant dinner table with a giant bird on a platter that brings said feathered woman to tears -- totally appropriate, though kind of awkward, for the holiday. He's reportedly performing "Lost in the World," so maybe Bon Iver will be there too.

Re: Kanye West

Here's an interesting article from the NYT from about a week and a half ago:

Kanye West, Still Unfiltered, on Eve of Fifth Album

By JON CARAMANICA
Published: November 17, 2010

KANYE WEST prefers his narratives linear, uninterrupted, undistressed. That’s why, when he’s been in the news media lately, his interlocutors have largely stayed out of his way. On everything from radio shows to record-label-sanctioned conference calls simulcast on the Internet, the pattern has been pretty much the same: Mr. West speaks until he is done, and only then does someone ask another question.

What all of these outlets have in common is that Mr. West’s words will be represented in full, without intrusion or interpretation. The Web site Jezebel recently compiled a five-minute video stitching together several of Mr. West’s televised outbursts and outlandish statements over the years. And while they’re mostly uncomfortable to watch, they’re motivated by a consistent, if peculiar, internal logic: that Mr. West isn’t to be disturbed.

When he’s comfortable, and not feeling cornered, he can be thoughtful, as he was during an extended visit this month to the D.J. Funkmaster Flex on the New York radio station Hot 97. “As a celebrity, as soon as you become a star, as soon as it pops off for you, at that point you stop growing,” he admitted.

Re: Kanye West

According to Billboard Kanye debuts at #1 with sales of 518,775

Re: Kanye West

As expected, Kanye West and Nicki Minaj arrive in the Nos. 1 and 2 slots, respectively, on the Billboard 200 albums chart. Mr. West sold 496,000 of his "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy," while Minaj moved 375,000 of her "Pink Friday" debut according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Both sales starts are a bit lower than initially projected, as some industry insiders had predicted in the early part of last week that the pair were on track to start with perhaps 550,000 and 400,000, respectively.

Nevertheless, West's 496,000 gives him his fourth straight No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 and the fourth-best sales week of 2010. It's also a better launch than the 450,000 that greeted his last set, 2008's "808s & Heartbreak." As for Minaj, she racks up the second-best sales week for a female hip-hop act. Only Lauryn Hill has done better, when "The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill" started at No. 1 with 423,000 in 1998.
