No [Text: Removed], the defendant has to assert that he THOUGHT he was in danger and then the PROSECUTION has to PROVE that no "reasonable person" would buy that. Perhaps Liberals are tired of the crazy right pretending their fantasies are law. This is how the self defense plea works, The defendant doesn't have to PROVE anything. He's the defendant.

Kyle put himself and everyone in danger showing up to a protest because he wanted to intimidate a black protest for police brutality. Protesting injustice is OUR attempt to defend our lives, since the laws, police and courts fail to do so day in and day out.

He had no valid reason to be there and could've killed innocent people, for what? To silence black cries for justice? Well he failed, he killed. Which is what people with guns seem to do far more often than they save anyone.

In my town--Los Angeles--BLM protests were marked by looting and arson, and the police did little to nothing to stop the violence. The same thing happened in Kenosha, as it did in many other cities across the country.

The governor should have sent in the National Guard when it became apparent that the local police were unable for whatever reason to control the violence. Had he done so, this would never have happened.

If you're going to quote President Biden, at least get it right. He in fact said "While the verdict in Kenosha will leave many Americans feeling angry and concerned, myself included, we must acknowledge that the jury has spoken.". Indeed it has.

There is no point to a discussion.

The ammosexuals who are lusting to see every teenager toting an AR15 are in their corner.

The far right wing people in denial about the horrific issue of racism are in their corner.

The people who believe they are on the side of the angels and justice for the murdered are in their corner.

I am so thankful that we live in a place where the judiciary is not elected or politically appointed.

It is risible that Rittenhouse plans on training to be a nurse. Hopefully they put him in ER where he can treat gunshot woulds.

The haters would be so disappointed if we didn't show up and yell at them. They need the validation. You can't convince racists, they either grow up on their own, or they never do. You can't reason with the gun nuts, their identities are defined by the guns they idolize.

Just like Kyle wanted desperately to be suburban commando man, the issue comes down to the way the guns make them feel about themselves. no point trying to talk to that. You'd have to address the underlying psychology to do any good.

When the rest of America catches on that there's more than porn, fight videos and pictures of cats wearing costumes on the internet, that it can be an invaluable tool for tearing apart systems of oppression or drowning out the voices of those with less-than noble agendas like they do in other countries, boy oh boy... <<< almost mistyped that as "boy oh joy" which would've fit too. :gogirl:

i dream of the day we say to hell with every inch of a system designed by men who were literally live-action disney villains. One of the most damaging facets being the devastating wreckage gun violence causes on my community while ammosexuals (thanks rareboy for the term) play cops and robbers and shoot soda cans in their backyard purposely ignoring the massive gun-driven terror that is every day life in black and poor communities.

One day they'll understand how this disempowers their own communities as well. With integration in full swing, the gun-toting rapists and thieves who used to lurk exclusively in the hood per "what're ya doin in this neighborhood BOY" can now venture off into affluent areas and commit their perverse violent crimes against suburbanites. Everybody gets to join in the suffering.

A black actress was shot in the head in front of her toddler in her apt ?last year? by a white guy cleaning his gun in the same complex. The final line of the article was "investigation continues to determine IF charges will be filed." Is that the precedent? "Oops I killed someone, legit accident so no charges?"

I've been haunted by that "if," too disgusted to check for an update. Im ALMOST too disgusted to state the obvious outcome if the colors had been reversed.

I am Mr Middleground, I try like hell to find reason in opposing arguments but with bodies dropping like flies and people like KKKyle being given get out of jail free cards for gun violence I just fail to find any redeeming quality in this guns-are-the-future culture.

It is sickening watching a significant portion of a country celebrate vigilante-ism.

It is like watching the enablement of a brownshirt movement to the south of us.

And have no doubt. Eventually they will come for everyone who isn't pudgy, white and with a chip on their shoulder.

They have declared open season.

A point of contention I had missed, not only is this about race but gender. There's a shit-ton of women in prison for shooting their abusers or human traffickers. No chorus of white guys (and their female pet cheerleaders) crying SELF DEFENSE! The constant barrage of racism on a daily basis sometimes makes me forget white men in America like to trample all over women too. The only ones to be trusted to use guns is them. Exclusively their race and gender.

Legal jeopardy may not be over for Rittenhouse though.

One of the families of the murdered are filing a civil suit against the Kenosha police and there is some possibility that Rittenhouse could be added as a defendant.

In case some forgot...even when OJ got off for murdering Nicole, the civil trial found him responsible.

"A criminal case requires that it is beyond a reasonable doubt,...Whereas a civil case requires that it is beyond a preponderance of the evidence, which is basically 50.0001% of being able to prove or establish liability. With a lower bar perhaps it may be that plaintiffs decide that they want to try to sue for wrongful death, or some other sort of injury, and make Kyle Rittenhouse responsible --
