Killer drone strikes again

Bob, I'm still waiting for your answer regarding how you now approve of executing murderers in the USA.

Actually the two aren't parallel. This would be like finding a serial murderer who is working on his next hit, and killing him on the street.

That sort of illustrates why the ACLU is having a fit over this -- we're accustomed to catching people and giving a trial. The trouble is that we're in 'new' territory here, where neither traditional war nor traditional police work are quite appropriate.

Why didn't we undertake an "in absentia" trial, sub-rosa if necessary?

This makes good drama and for frothing at the mouth but the real mistake is that we were informed.

I think everyone is kinda like the lady "who protestith too much."

Indeed. The times Bush was doing this it was never quite as open. Then people complained. Obama is open about killing our enemies and everyone is pussy hurt.

Bottom line is good or bad someone is gonna bitch about it occurring no matter what the situation.

So you'd rather have an emperor than a president?

No president should be allowed to make this kind of decision just by himself. Set up the review process I suggested earlier. Make it open to some senior members of Congress. But get a system in place that's something other than imperial power.

Unlike President Obama, at least President Bush kept his own priorities straight ... in staying focused on the real people responsible for attacking us on 9/11 ...

Saddam Hussein and his army.

All I hear is crickets.

Oh my, impatient little things, aren't you? [-X Some of us do have a life away from internet forums. Too bad you two scallywags don't.

Responding to trolls is futile, but I'll give it a go.

If you don't know the difference between killing an enemy in war or executing someone who could possibly be innocent, then there's no hope for you. The right-wing is trying to spin this that Anwar al-Awlaki is/was an American citizen killed (by the President) without due processes.

When you join a terrorist group and kill and recruit others to kill other Americans, you're an enemy. You've denounced and thrown away your American citizenship and committed treason.

Of course you two will poo-poo and try and spin this explanation as you always do. It's expected. That's why I say it's futile to respond to trolls. And I'm flattered that you value my opinion so much you make multiple posts requesting it.

ACLU, Center for Constitutional Rights & Human Rights Watch organizations are right-wing ?

President Obama has wedged an effective war against terrorism in his tenure of President so far. He has exceeded my expectations on the issue of defense.

Politics should take a backseat when in comes to security but we know it doesn't. So I'll be watching how the independent voters opinion of the president moves in the next batch of polls.

Forthcoming, if not already here: "The United States deeply regrets this unfortunate incident and... ."

I would like to know how and by whom some of the "pre-action" criteria are/will be determined and what safeguards and assuredness we can have that this "action" will only be in the national interest and in consideration of an imminent (is that enough?) threat.

These are effective weapons. What do we do when "the bad guy" has them?

Gettin' scary folks.

I love the mix of reactions in here.

I do find it ironic that kicking in doors, grabbing the exact terrorist, depriving him of sleep for more information and detaining him at GITMO was so horrifying to my liberal friends.

But when President Obama orders a drone to blow up grandma, the kids, the wife, and hopefully the terrorist, his position is so much more revered by my liberal friends.

Which method do you think does more to inspire new terrorists? I personally think President Obama's preferred method insures a much broader and deeper generational hatred. What do you think?
