Know what's good?

Why not? Health? I feel better eating healthier meats although I still go off the healthy diet and eat sausages and pepperoni and the like.... still grass fed free range bison or cattle is so much tastier and healthier than the standard grown meat products....

Sorry, I just noticed your question. Yes I eat very little meat for health, specifically I need to watch my cholesterol. I restrict butter, cheese and land-based meat to almost nothing, though I allow myself all the fish I want. Truly though, I adore all the crafts and pleasures around eating meat and I treat myself once a week to a meaty dish guilt-free.

Last week, it was half of a good fatty burger with topnotch Canadian bacon, oozy cheddar cheese and an indelicate smear of homemade aioli laced with Spanish paprika. Oh God. It was so good.

A bag of vegetables, leftover pasta from lunch and 16 chicken nuggets.

Hershey bar for dessert ..|

Saag= spinach
Paneer= yoghurt

Saag is a preparation of cooked greens which might include spinach (palak in Hindi), mustard greens (sarson) or other greens. It's hails from Punjab.

Paneer is cheese. Dahi (Hindi) is yogurt.

Jalapeno Cornbread!

Made my first pan for the season this morning:

Honestly?

I could eat all of it in one sitting.

To many carbs. :cry:

Oooh!

But the fresh chopped onions, jalapenos, and cheddar cheese?

The smell of cornbread in the oven filling up the house? :luv:

Talk about "comfort food!"

I usually cook this as a side for salad, or a pot of pinto beans or blackeyed peas.

GOOD STUFF! ..|

Recipe attached.

:D

YOU in my kitchen naked cooking cornbread NOW....... marry me?

Home made chicken soup. My honey made it for me cause I've been very sick.

I Love Love Love all manner of soups but basic chicken noodle is quite possibly the perfect soup....

Actually I like Indian cuisine so much, especially Saag Paneer.

Saag= spinach
Paneer= yoghurt
and I order that with lamb..so it's gonna be..Lamb Saag

You are quite the food historian. I didnt know the origin of Tikka Masala either.

For your health post (which somehow didnt copy over when i hit multi post) do you up your Omega 3 and 6 oils along with put in tons of whole grains and legumes?

roast chicken, with red potatoes, butternut squash

MMMM I dunno if you do your own but if you like to cook as I do then try High Temp roast chicken.... it is awesome

here's a link if your game:

America's Test Kitchen roast chicken - the best! (long)

the cool thing about this recipe is that the chicken ends up perfect, crispy, juicy tasty..... BUT the added surprise is the amazing potatoes that are created. they are almost worth it all by themselves......

Oh and today was a lack luster food day but I did entertain my mouth with some Chile Spiced Pineapple from trader Joe's

I only know this stuff as a historian might know history...that is, in a way less interesting than a citizen might know the countryside.

Regarding health, yep, I supplement with fish oil. I think I naturally eat lots of grains and legumes, so I've never really changed that part of my diet too much. I also added psyllium husk for awhile, and I should probably re-introduce it, though I haven't had my blood checked recently. Seriously though, the biggest thing I could do to help my lipid profile is to exercise more.

You must have some reason to be knowledgeable about these health issues....

I can't believe how much I ate today. My Mom had minor surgery so I ate 2 meals at the hospital cafeteria: small cheese omelet with hash browns, a bowl of mixed fruit and an iced mocha. Then for lunch, a small chicken cordon bleu piece with wild rice pilaf and creamed spinach, a diet coke. Free "Smarties" candy roll left over from Halloween. Then samples at Costco: Greek yogurt, ravioli with some kind of pesto chicken stuffing, hot apple cider. They also gave samples of some prepared crescent roll dough that they spread with a cream cheese and herb mixuture, then rolled them up into little puffs and baked them like that. Those were really good. A diet Dr. Pepper (yes, I'm addicted to soda) and some snickerdoodles cookies. A small chocolate milk in the square package. A few Oroweat multi-grain Sandwich Thins (just bread) and some Naked Juice Gold Machine mixed fruit smoothie. Obviously tomorrow is going to have to be a diet day to make up for today.

Well I have always eaten very healthy due to my Mom and then after I struck out on my own that declined a bit and so did my vitality so I started eating like in my childhood and my health improved. I am lucky in that I can eat junk food but after a while my body actually has enough and just doesn't like it to the point of making me sick..... SO I am a healthy eater.

That and I think that life in a family revolves around the kitchen. SO I like being the cook and thoroughly in the center of things.....

Dont do a diet day. Just forgive yourself for eating through your stress and go on. A diet where you keep things from your normal diet is much more harmful than helpful. I would suggest a bit more exercise. Some days you cant control the eating. I know I eat a lot when I am stressed.

Oh and one more health nutty bit of advice.... figure out a way to ditch the soda...it is the worst thing you will ever put into your body.... drink real juice... so sweet and sooo good

How did things go for your Mum?

You're in LUCK JayHawk! *|*

My idea of "bling" consists of really kick ass gardening implements where I get to organically grow my own stuff, and/or cooking implements; knives, cutting boards, and kitchen gadgets that we could actually forgo an "engagement ring."

:mrgreen:

I'm not cheap, but I can be had! (!)

One of my FAVORITE recipes by far!

It's great as hour-dervies at a party, and it has to be made using entirely fresh ingredients.

Nothing out of a can. [-X

My own homemade pork and cider casserole. Just the thing in the english Autumn-approaching-winter; all of the ingredients are seasonal, from the apples to the prok shoulder; from the cider to the wholegrain mustard; relatively cheap, easy to make, packed full of delicious vegetables (I like a good wack of carrots, parsnips and peas in mine)...it's absolutely gorgeous, especially the day after it's made, when the flavours have fomented a little.

Today delectable delight for discerning dandy daddies is Navy Bean soup with ham.

I love this time of year and when the duty of daily life calls I typically make a nice soup while I clean my apartment and do the laundry.
