Koch Bros to Spend $887 Million on 2016 Presidential Election

But not so; Cruz is the son of an American mother. He is a "natural-born" citizen of the US and thus (along with his middle-agedness and near lifelong residency here) makes him eligible. It doesn't matter that his father was Cuban and he was born in Canada. Whether or not Republicans would vote for a "Son of the White North" is another matter.

Ironic, we on the Left (the Right side of history :=D: ) would become Birthers all of a sudden around a Presidente Cruz. I read in the NYT an OP-ED piece on the Cuban Adjustment Act that is the basis for the "Wet foot, dry foot" policy on Cuban immigration. Cubans coming across to Florida will be turned back, unless....the set foot on dry land. Then, they not only can stay, but have a fast track to a green card, support and U.S. citizenship. Cruz' anti-immigration stand understandably does not play well to the Hispanic voters at large, which he would need to win a national election. Marco Rubio, conversely, has come out for immigration reform, which makes him anathema among Conservatives.

Actually, it isn't. Congress defines what it means.

It means that the person was a citizen when born. Congress can, within limits, define that a person out born out of the U.S. to one or two citizens can be a citizen from birth and that anyone born in the US is a citizen when born.

Unless you were porn in the Panama Canal Zone between 1934 and 1937, and then if you happen to be seeking ***cough*** public office in 2008, your opponent will introduce a bill to make you a natural-born citizen.

Canada has election campaigning limits. It levels the playing field for all the candidates. Virtually all the 7 major political parties in Canada are represented in the House of Commons.

In fact, an MP (Member of Parliament) from Peterborough was recently charge and convicted of overspending the allotted amount by spending $21,000 of his own money to hire a company to phone constituents to vote for him. His sentencing was to come up in February, but he has a new lawyer who is appealing the conviction. I expect he'll still loose. There is no doubt that he paid the company to do the work for him. That put him over his spending limit.

It works for Canada.

canada could help America find its own real campaign finance, canada would benefit as much as we would.

Yes, but that's an odd case and I really don't care either way. For the record: he is now a natural born citizen if he wasn't before (his previous status is uncertain). But him losing kind of makes it a moot point.

On the second thing; Cruz is in fact eligible*. Electable, no. My advice to the GOP: Run him for president. It will be an utter failure. Haha

He is the son of a US citizen (his mother) and therefore natural-born, has lived in the US for more than 14 years (the family moved back when he was quite young) and is over 35. It doesn't matter how you look at it, he is legally able to be president. Through his mother's citizenship he is a natural-born citizen born abroad. It doesn't matter than his father is Cuban and he was born "up there". He is fully eligible and batshit crazy. I think that's a perfect losing combination. Like I said, he should be nominated for GOP candidate.

Well, it is a lot less than George Soros, so there is that.

How much is George Soros spending on the 2016 presidential campaign?

And which candidates has he purchased?
