Mmm. Up until Alejandro, I would have said it's just good pop music. Some interesting sense of humour, some great imagerie, a shitload of product placement but even that didn't offend me because the placement was obvious and kind of campy.

But Alejandro just seems rehashed and recycled instead of an hommage. Anyway I'm sure there will be more. Other stuff.

Jesus Christ people, just enjoy the music. Gaga is an attention whore...she doesn't care who she emulates (or rips off), what products are in her videos, or what she's wearing as long as it gets her attention. She makes good pop music; it's not ground breaking and it's not innovative. Yes, she's similar to Madonna in the same way that all pop-divas are similar to each other. She's at the center of so much controversy right now because people are so split over her; some lover her, some hate her. But it all fuels the attention and news...she basically lives by the maxim "there is no such thing as bad publicity".

Um honey... more people bought the Susan Boyle album and yes... it's rather sweet and haunting. That said, don't even start pretending that liking a very-promoted pop star (LAdy Googoo or Susan Boyle) makes you an expert in anything but being spoon-fed.

I'll gleefully admit to liking Ricky Martin but in the same breath I'll admit it just makes me a sheep.

Anyone with a neocortex is well aware that Lady Gaga is a marketing gimmick and has a team of professionals that are paid to copy shit from other 'shocking' people decades prior...that everyone from older generations has already seen.

Unfortunately most Gaga fans lack that part of the brain.

That's exactly what I told my friends after I first discovered Lady Gaga a few months ago. She's Madonna Junior. A Madonna for a new generation.

Hi everyone, haven't been here in awhile, thought I'd give my 2 cents on this topic.

I think what some people are trying to get at here is that it all comes back to the music. And stripped down, without the image, without the music videos, Lady Gaga is still an awesome artist.

I can remember when Lady Gaga was finally starting to be played on the US radios, all the DJ's were like, "International pop sensation Lady Gaga Who?" But guess what, before I ever even knew what she looked like or acted like, I heard the music to Just Dance, Poker Face, (then I saw those two music videos), and then Paparazzi. I really enjoyed the music, but held myself back a bit because I know how easy it is for producers to make anyone sound good in a studio.

THEN. I saw her perform some acoustic versions of her songs, and I was blown away. That's when I was transformed into a fellow monster ;)

Like this for instance. Take away the actual video and just listen to the MUSIC. She has a VOICE and can actually PLAY THE PIANO. That's why she's good, that's why people love her. Tack on all the derived/inspired/whatever you want to call it image that she has, and that's what makes her an icon. She brought Dance back onto radio, even hip-hop sounds dancy now.

The Fame album is the only album in history to get 7 world-wide top-ten hits, and didn't achieve this for being "just a madonna ripoff."



Let's watch Britney or Madonna do that.

Did you even see the original post? You honestly think that "both have worn hats in music videos" and "both have been interviewed while wearing sunglasses" are valid examples of plagiarism? :rolleyes:

Most of the video is her Alejandro video, which used Stephen Klein, who has worked with Madonna before. Obviously, there are going to be similarities if you use the same director.

Gaga never really cites Madonna as a source of inspiration (from what I've heard at least, which is a lot). She usually says her inspiration draws from David Bowie, Queen.

Is she totally original? No, the only two people to be completely original were Adam and Eve. She's different enough to not be considered a cookie-cutter pop star.

I don't have anything against gaga. love her actually. but what irks me more so is the fans crediting her with so much "originality" which isn't true. she's not anymore original than christina, beyonce, or madonna.

musically, i see parallels between alejandro and ace of base, abba, and even herself (i can't put my finger on it but i hear lovegame in alejandro, just slowed down tempo maybe?). visually, of course she is doing "vogue" and i also think that it has a fighter/closer/disturbia look to it. even with paparazzi, i see "fighter" elements with the canes she walks with and "sweet escape" with all the gold in the room. i don't think shes ripping anyone off but it is annoying when fans credit her with this so-called originality.

That Video was fierce! I love Madonna and like GaGa. I must admit that GaGa needs to take a little break before she burns out too soon. She is totally inspired by Madonna.

I have to ask: where did Lady Gaga say she was original? I'm not a huge fan but IMO it seems that a lot of the flack that she's getting is because she's both successful and a media whore. And it's not like LG's the first media whore in the history of show biz. ;)

Something important to note: Madonna has compared herself to Lady Gaga, and vice versa because of the following:

They're both Italian women who aren't natural blondes, who tried to make it for years in the New York clubs, yet were completely unsuccessful until they became gay-friendly; Then, they became popular in the Manhattan Gay Scene and quickly took off as superstars.


So, the "Lady Gaga" persona is s purposeful homage or parody of Madonna and the high-fashion drag queens in the Manhattan Gay Scene, respectively.

Madonna SUBTLY ripped off Marilyn Monroe alot back in the 80s and up into the mid 90's. So I don't know why some people think Madonna is original.

After watching this performance, I'm completely hooked! I feel like such a fool for not giving her a chance b4 now. This is not Britney or Rihanna or Kesha. Lady Gaga is the real deal.

Nothing is truly original. Even the way we act or we speak, growing up you learn how to move around by what you see in society; at least unconsciously to some extent you do.

Either way its annoying when people go out of their way to prove that an artist sucks. You don't like them fine, just don't try to get at me because you can't enjoy it the way I do.

I don't think Lady gaga is a god, but i'm not going to deny the women has some good songs here and there. With some witty liners I might add.

Watching Jay Leno interview Gaga tonight. He asked Lady Gaga about the whole "Born This Way" being compared to "Express Yourself" stuff. In reply, she not only gives a shout-out to Madonna, saying how she is a huge fan of hers and called her "the Queen" (should make you Madonna fans happy), but also said she has been in contact with Madonna and her people, and they are totally supportive of her and the song.

Thought it was a pretty good interview. Lady Gaga is very well spoken and seems very smart.
