Re: GaGa dresses as Elizabeth I to meet Queen and suspends herself from ceiling
That, however, doesn't invalidate my claims that the British Royal family did openly support first, the Kaiser in its attempts to take down Prussia and neutralize France's prominent role in European politics and imperial expansion in Africa, and then its racialist policies with the Nazis. Actually, the main sponsors for the Nazi were English, and all of them were linked to the royal family.
The fact that the Germans were not willing to share power with anyone and thus, wrecked havoc amongst their sympathizers, doesn't mean the royals were saints. They just took the position most convenient to them at a time of conflict, against a well defined foreign enemy.
First of all, the Kaiser WAS Prussian. Prussia took over Germany and became the German Empire.
Second of all, Kaiser Wilhelm II was a grandson of Queen Victoria (through his mother HRH Princess Victoria, Princess Royal). So is it really any wonder that George V would have wanted to favor his cousin?
In the end, though, all royals with German connections either had to renounce their German titles (like Prince Philip's grandfather Louis Mountbatten who married a granddaughter of Queen Victoria as well), or be excluded from succession to the throne. This was all during WWI.
By the time WWII rolled around, I'm not really sure what you're even talking about. Other than the Duke of Windsor, no one even so much as visited Germany. And the Duke was expressly advised by Parliament NOT to go. And all of this was going on in 1937, well before any international hostilities began. At that point, no one really knew what was going on in Germany. If you really want a German history lesson, let me know, but basically what FDR was for the US during the Great Depression, Hitler was a demented, sick, twisted German version. After WWI, Germany was experiencing hyperinflation the likes of which can only be rivaled by Zimbabwe's troubles in recent years. I'm not excusing the Shoa (that cannot be excused), but I can say that the German people were not as a whole responsible for how Hitler came to power (shady and un-democratic at best).
Furthermore, it's a tough argument to make that regular Germans were at the time aware of what was happening to Jews, homosexuals, Roma ("gypsies"), political prisoners, and other "unproductive members of society." So how were other countries supposed to know? The US didn't know and could have cared less. American GIs were shocked when they liberated the death camps, so I'm surprised you say that the Windsors "promoted and supported" "racialist fascist" Nazi policies. What's more, most of the camps were outside Germany proper, so as to keep them hidden from the German people. Besides, before Germany invaded the Soviet Union, a lot of Jews were deported. Actually, from my visit to Sachsenhausen (a death camp just north of Berlin), I was surprised to learn that most of the Jews housed in Sachsenhausen before 1939 actually survived and were set loose from the camp provided that they leave Germany permanently. This is not to say that the Germans didn't kill millions of innocent people, but to state that there is a lot of misinformation out there.
I'd advise all of you do some more research....
