Re: The Official LADY GAGA Mega-thread

So it sold around 668,000 units its first week, which is above the 400,000 it was estimated to move by Gaga's record company. I'm sure her record label is very happy but lets be honest its a disappointment number for her.

With endless promotion, tv appearances, millions of twitter followers and this being her 3 album...668,000 is below expectations.

A deal with starbucks, farmville and other cross promotions, I thought for sure it would sale above the 1m mark but i guess i was wrong.

600,000 plus would be a fantastic achievement for any other singer but not for the so called top pop singer of the year. Her fans were predicting record breaking sales but she could not even beat out country singer Taylor Swift.

Taylor had 1,006,000 units sold its first week without all that media circus and she did it with her selling her album at regular price. Now thats an achievement worth talking about.

p.s. Yes I'm ready for all Lady Gagas fans calling be a bitter________fan or that I'm jealous _____fan. You can call me names but you have to admit I do have a point

Re: The Official LADY GAGA Mega-thread

^^ As much as it pains me to admit it, Judas flopped real hard (it lucked out by debuting at #10 on the Hot100 tho) and they (GaGa and her label) weren't just going to let the momentum die down..... like the idiots labels of other Pop stars with flops did, like for example Christina Aguilera with Bionic, or Avril Lavigne with Goodbye Lullaby, in that they lingered with a flop single that wasn't going to sell the album (Pop albums are primarily ¨sold¨ by having hit singles).

PS: Bionic was such a huge flop (arguably the biggest flop of 2010), and Avril's latest album has barely scanned 200,000 copies; from the 1,700,000 that she did with her past album.

Check your facts:

1. Taylor had a $7 million campaign from Target advertising her album. Amazon sold her album (the whole week of her debut) at $3.99.

2. GaGa did beat Taylor Swift by more than 50,000 copies.

3. GaGa also won for herself a $10 million campaign with Target, but she pulled out of that deal because (unlike Taylor Swift who has never said anything remotely pro gay in her career), GaGa did not approve of Target's anti gay contributions. Which means that GaGa didn't had the same deal Taylor had.

4. Unlike Taylor, who is only really known in the US and maybe Canada, GaGa is a WORLDSWIDE superstar (with her album going #1 in practically every mayor music market on the planet).

5. And, Gaga's debut tour has been declared one of the 10 money makers tour EVER.

Re: The Official LADY GAGA Mega-thread

The Fame sold 3 million, and it technically got re-released as part of the deluxe edition of Fame Monster. That's still a far cry from 5 million.

I'm not saying that Born This Way won't have staying power, but moreso that anybody selling five million albums in the US with the state of the recording industry today is a push.

Gaga knows how to pimp her stuff, so I guess she could do it if anybody still can, though.

Re: The Official LADY GAGA Mega-thread

If the Fame sold 4.4 million, why has it only been certified 3x platinum, unless it's somehow sold another 1.4 million copies since last summer?

Adding Fame Monster's figures to prove that The Fame sold 5.8 million isn't exactly right either, since Fame Monster was sold separately as well as with the Fame.

Re: The Official LADY GAGA Mega-thread

Okay, then, I'm a Lady Gaga basher because I went on the RIAA site and searched for how many times platinum her albums have been certified by the RIAA. All three of which (The Fame, Fame Monster, and Born This Way) I've bought and greatly enjoyed myself. Cool.

Again, check your facts.

TF + TF/TFM have sold around 4,182,189 (and still selling around 8,000 - 10,000 weekly; which means it will eventually reach 4.5 million or more when all it's said and done

TFM (as an individual EP album) has sold 1,464,604 (and still selling around 2,000-3,000 weekly; it will reach 1.5 million at the very least)

The Remix (yes it's still part of TF/TFM project) has sold 218,776.

Combined total of 5,865,569

Add to that the almost 30 million singles she has sold (of the TF/TFM project that is). Industry people (like Billboard) make a rough equate of 10 singles = 1 album. That means she has sold what equates 3,000,000 or so albums (on singles).

Grand total of 8,865,569 (bear in mind she is still selling very well, both albums and singles and she will probably do when all said and done like 9.5 million or more).

Music sales as of 2009-2011 have plummeted around 50% of what they were on their peak in the years 1999-2001.

Re: I don't "get" Lady Gaga

^I'm not entirely sold on any of this,

Personally, I reckon she's got the world eating out of the palm of of her hand because they haven't yet realised she's simply taking the piss.

That expression must have a totally different meaning on your side of the world, -d- .

Re: The Official LADY GAGA Mega-thread

No disrespect meant here, but I'll believe that when it happens. There's usually a sharp sales decrease after an album's opening week, and a third of her sales this week already came from an insane bargain on Amazon.

I also hope she doesn't do nine singles altogether, as that could overexpose her really fast and make people care less. I mean, just with Judas, it came out, hit #10 thanks to sales and then was dropped hard for Edge of Glory even though it could have gone higher. I felt like it barely even registered with me as a single in the same way that Paparazzi, Bad Romance, Telephone or Born This Way did because it was so here and gone.

I think it's possible...she could have quite the longevity if she spans the singles out over a couple years. Plus, if she has interesting and unique video concepts she can breathe individuality into each song for marketing purposes.

I know 'Judas' was technically a bomb, but it's rocking 55m+ views on YouTube and has been floating in the top ten on iTunes charts since it was released. It's still a hit regardless of the charts.

I agree with this. Just as long as she doesn't rapid fire singles out as fast as she did for Judas -> EoG. Thanks for not biting my head off. :)

I wasn't even aware that Judas didn't do that well, for the reasons you listed and because it was still a top ten chart hit. So that's why I found it strange that it got dropped so quickly for EoG. I guess the conservatives didn't like the biblical references. I would loved to see her perform it on the Idol finale when Middle America voted the two safest country singers into the finals. Heads would have exploded.

Re: The Official LADY GAGA Mega-thread

People please, she can (and really needs) at least 6-7 singles out of this album.

GaGa's real money comes from her tours, and + singles = + exposure = + shows she can do = + money she can make.

Re: The Official LADY GAGA Mega-thread

@Piquechampion: (unlike Taylor Swift who has never said anything remotely pro gay in her career)

IIRC, someone posted a "boy meets boy" version of her "You Belong To Me" video on YouTube, and Taylor gave it her approval.

Taylor also stated in a interview that she wanted to take Perez Hilton to her prom as her gay BFF.

Re: The Official LADY GAGA Mega-thread

GiancarloC, you need to chill and stop with your fucking obnoxious attitude. It's getting fucking annoying already. *rolls eyes*

Re: I don't "get" Lady Gaga

^Nope, it has a totally different meaning on YOUR side of the pond, Joshy.

Americans - tsk tsk tsk etc. ;)

Re: The Official LADY GAGA Mega-thread

I would have given anything for Born This Way to sell more than 50's album, damn it, so close.

Re: The Official LADY GAGA Mega-thread

Glad to see she sold more than Taylor Swift! I don't care if a large marjority of her sales came from the 99cent deal. That's all I asked and I got it!

Can't wait for 'Edge of Glory' video.

Re: The Official LADY GAGA Mega-thread

Classy. Very classy. Insult me, use profanity, and show tremendous anger, yet telling me to chill?

I'm not the one with the obnoxious attitude here. That's hypocritical on your part.

If you're not going to contribute anything to this thread, don't respond to me.

I've tried calmly reasoning with you before but you're too blind to realize how ridiculous your attitude is. You're just pissed people have called you out on it. Don't like it? Deal with it!
