It's certainly not awful, but not my favourite song of hers...chorus is the best. Expected more applause in the song though, ha!

Hate it! Its sooo basic and forgettable.

Why don't you like it? Because it wasn't written by super-mass-producer Luke, whose songs all sound the same, following the same chord progression? Or because it's not a blatant rip-off of a song released only this year?

Lol nope...its because the song is basic and forgettable. It's as simple as that ;)

It's a drag queen song. I certainly don't dislike it, but I heard it ONCE and could imagine a couple select drag queens down in Florida putting together a routine for it already.

Choreography of Applause

Says a lot that the most interesting thing about the video is that they chose to be naked... otherwise, it's every (sloppy) queen/vogue movement in the book.

I'm not applauding.

Now that you mentioned it I could totally see it as a drag anthem.

She should have stuck with Burqa as the lead single since its 10x better then Applause.

Burqa and Applause are both awful and shitty. I think Burqa's actually better.

I admit I was hesitant to judge so soon because I didn't like her first BTW singles either, but they grew on me. I don't think honestly that there's any chance here though. Applause doesn't even have a tune, so there's nothing to grow from :p.

The only thing that could restore my hope for Artpop era is a good studio version of "Princess Die".

Definitely think Applause is better. Burqa has a good chorus, but everything else feels kind of a mess. Applause is good overall, but the build up to the chorus is better than the chorus itself I think. Album will more than likely be good I imagine, not really worried about it.

How very sad for the hause of gaga, lol......

Katy Perry's Roar Downloaded 450K Times, Doubles Lady GaGa's Applause Sales Numbers For Week!

As if there was any doubt, Katy Perry's Roar did NOT hit the airwaves with a whimper! She roared like a motherlovin' lion! Katy's new single is on pace to sell 450,000 digital copies by the end of the week!!!!! Nearly a half million downloads in ONE WEEK? That's like one copy for every man, woman, and child who lives in the great state of Wyoming! We smell a victory!!! Katy's fab fresh Prism single might be off to a perfect start, but her biggest competitor this week isn't faring nearly as well. Lady GaGa's Applause is only on pace to sell around 200K copies by the week's end! [/url]

Eh,

Born This Way > Applause
California Gurls > Roar

All the hype Katy & GaGa had to these singles, I think both singles were not what people were expecting.

But, GaGa's is a solid dance/club song. Katy's is very sing along material. So I'm guessing they will both do really well with these singles.

Katy and Gags - They should release their albums at the same time and see who really comes up on top.

'Applause' is really good when you're tipsy dancing (like I was last night ..|, but I kept rewinding to 2:58 onwards - the chorus is very dancey :luv:)

I dunno why people care about charts. A vast majority of the #1 songs are from the same producers, just changing chords for each hit song. They're all similar. Musically, the entire Teenage Dream album can be played as one song on one set of strings.

*shrugs* I guess I just like Gaga because her producers are, well...hers.

This also has to do with the fact that Katy is limited as a vocalist so there isn't much producers can do for her, genre-wise and she can't excel in many styles of music. But what she can do, she does very well.

GaGa's producers of her hits also aren't exclusively hers. Her biggest hits are produced by RedOne (Poker Face, Just Dance, LoveGame, Bad Romance, Alejandro) and he's worked with Pitbull, J. Lo, Mariah Carey, Akon, Usher, and Nicki Minaj (to name a few).

But to call out Katy's producers vs GaGa's is like a pot calling a kettle black. As long as you're a mainstream recording artist you are to an extent just a product selling another product. You are manufactured.

Cupid's goddess Kylie explained this best

"If you're part of a record company, I think to a degree it's fair to say that you're a manufactured product. You're a product and you're selling a product. It doesn't mean that you're not talented and that you don't make creative and business decisions about what you will and won't do and where you want to go."
- Kylie

I love her in the 'head to toe covered in black' look. The sea-shell bra outfit is my second favorite.

2:58 - end is my favorite part of the song. That chorus is dancey as fuck.

Lady Gaga Applause Flops With Fans

Lady Gaga fans have given her new single more of a slow clap than applause. The preview song from Gaga’s ‘ARTPOP’ album is stiffing with the fans.

In Australia, ‘Applause’ has already fallen out of the Top 10 of the iTunes chart to number 15 after just one week on sale. In the USA, ‘Applause’ is down to no. 7 and in the UK it has fallen to no. 10.

The lack of interest has become a major issue for Universal Music, Lady Gaga’s record label. Universal will rush-release a second single ‘Swine’ within two weeks to hopefully reignite some interest in Gaga.

It gets worse. Lady Gaga’s YouTube views for ‘Applause’ have been questioned after her fanbase was encouraged to hit refresh to inflate the figures. Incentives were also given to fans who were encouraged to buy multiple copies of the song to win a prize in an effort to upstage ‘Roar’, the new song by Katy Perry.

That failed too. ‘Roar’ will sell around 525,000 downloads in the USA in the first week compared to ‘Applause’ at 225,000 (according to Billboard).

Perry’s last album ‘Teenage Dream’ sold 2.9 million copies in America. Lady Gaga’s last album ‘Born This Way’ sold 2.1 million.
