Languages

German, English, French (kinda ..I got evil glances, too ;) )
 
My native language (of course) and English. I speak Chinese quite fluently but not on an expert level.
 
I can speak bits in a lot of languages. I would only be really comfortable speaking in English but I can do quite a bit of German, Spanish and French if I try. I find it quite easy to understand other languages. After listening to people talk in an unfamiliar language for a few minutes I can understand most of what they are trying to say as long as they speak slowly.
 
Swissgerman, German, English, French, PHP, Basic, one word of Finnish ("perkele") and some Japanese expressions ("hentai", "baka", "moshi moshi" and "arigato gotsaimasu").

I want to learn Esperanto.
 
I speak English, Portuguese, and German fluently.
I can get by speaking and have about 95% reading comprehension in Spanish, Italian, and French.
I have basic speaking abilities in Mandarin, which I am now in the process of learning, and can identify about 100 characters.
 
English fluently (should be obvious), and I used to be able to understand quite a bit of Italian, which i've nearly completely forgotten. I also know a few dozen words and phrases in Japanese, and can somewhat understand what an older person or non-native speakers are saying, but younger Japanese guys talk way too fast and use way too many different forms and slangs for me to keep up with.

A friend was once watching a subbed anime on his laptop, and I was standing on the other side of it. From the audio, I was able to translate about every third or fourth phrase. He was impressed that I at least knew the subject of the conversation they were having.

I'm fluent in English and Afrikaans and can get by sort-of with written Spanish, provided it's not the Spanish translation of Special Relativity or something like that. Occasionally I get by with written Dutch as well given it being the roots of Afrikaans.

Well good for you man.. I wish I could speak fluently in many languages.. my primary langauge is English... but if you have ever read any posts/threads I've made you will see that I don't write too well in my primary language.
 
Though it is possible to live here without speaking French I did feel obliged to learn it.

I don't have a musical ear so I speak it with one of those English accents that some people adore.

Every one understands me and would say I speak it fluently but they never correct me so I know that my mistakes must be sweet and they are more amused than offended.
 
I'm bilingual in French and English and can possibly hold a very small conversation in Spanish so long as I only use the present tense and that my interlocutor speaks very slowly.

I also know the odd phrases and words in Scottish Gaelic.
 
I just can speak fluently Spanish :( I can be understood in English but I don't speak it fluently.

Apart of that I can read French, Italian and Portuguese, and I understand very much of spoken Italian
 
I fluently speak "Southern U.S." English. I can understand "Yankee U.S." english, but can't speak it. Oh, I do remember a few Chamorro phrases from when I lived in Guam. :p
 
Fluent in English, competent in German, and I can get by in Spanish. I can get bits and pieces of Dutch and of Romance languages like French, Portuguese and Italian, but I've never had formal training.

Well shit, if Yankee counts as a language, then I'm adding that to my list.
 
english and spanish. took german in college so can get by in that.

want to learn a language? go live in another country for a year with people who don't speak english. difficult and isolating at first, which is a major motivator to learn.
