Laptop Recommendations

and now that they are Intel inside are competively priced with PC laptops!

No, they aren't. Not even close.

Tired of spam, rebooting all the time? I would checkout Apple.

Spam has nothing to do with the type of computer you have. Apples have to be rebooted too, and modern PCs don't have to be rebooted anymore than an apple.

If you have lots of time and money for constant repairs and upgrades, and don't mind viruses, get a PC. Otherwise, join the Mac revolution.

You are totally wrong. Not just a different opinion, but completely incorrect. First of all, PCs do not need "constant repairs", nor are Macs trouble free. This is a stupid myth made up by Mac cult followers in the days of windows 95. You never are required to upgrade a PC, but you can if you want to - something you can't do with a Mac. Secondly, PCs, their parts, peripherals, and software are all cheaper than Macs, thus, the mac is the one you need lots of money for. Thirdly, Macs have viruses too, and they have this thing now called virus protection software. It prevents viruses just like condoms. That said, I've never had any viruses nor virus software on my PCs in 10 years of constant use.

Macs are computers just like anything else. They do a fine job of common computer tasks - web browsing, movies, documents, music, etc. They also break down on occassion just like every other computer ever made. They do not do a better job with normal tasks than anything else. Given that, they are NOT worth twice as much for a completely un-upgradeable machine.

Another thing to consider is that Dell alone sells more computers than Apple, and there are alot more companies than just Dell who make PCs. If PCs aren't better, then why the hell are so many people buying them and not Macs?

As for a REAL laptop, get a Dell! Of course there will be people who don't like Dell, or like other brands better. But one thing you will notice - if you ask on ANY forum, whether it's a computer forum, a gay forum, or something else - you will get more people recommending Dell than anything else. I have had several of them that are all in perfect health several years later, and even if it does break, Dell has a better warranty than anybody else, no question about it. Even apple freaks complain about apple's warranty service. (see this thread: http://justusboys.com/forum/showthread.php?t=144447 )

DO NOT BUY A TOSHIBA!!!! As common as it is for people to recommend Dell, there are just as many people who have had their Toshiba blow up. Go to any computer forum, not a gay forum, and ask about Toshibas, and at least 15 people will reply with a horror story. I've had two of them, they suck beyond belief.

Its quite sensible to get an Apple. I think you get more out of your money. The macbooks are nice. You get Core2Duo processors, fast RAM, nice resolution screen, SEXY design and all the stuff you want and need.

You can run Mac OS X and Windows as well. Both natively and now, that's a laptop. And to tell you the truth, If I run windows on a mac compared to a windows PC, mac owns PC. Hands down.

So yeah, I just think you more out of your money if you get one of em macs. You get 2 OSs, you could run them natively or you can do it parallel from OS X (I think you'll love it and never look back to windows) and yeah, Problem free too unlike a windows PC. So I guess that's it.

Good luck on your choice mate! :)

I agree with secondmonkey (are you second if I came later :) about avoiding Toshiba's. My very first laptop (the one I'm currently using) was/is a Toshiba that I got not even two years ago yet and has had problems from day one. I've had such a bad first experience with them that I'll never buy another Toshiba computer again.

Meanwhile I totally disgaree about Dell's being worth it. They may be good computers, I wouldn't know as I've never used or owned one, but I've heard on several occassions that they have terrible customer service. A simple google search will shed more light on what I'm talking about.

OTC has probably already made up his mind by now anyway but I just bought myself a $1,900 hp with HD-DVD rom, built in webcam, backlit control pannel, 240 GIG HDD, 2 GHz Core 2 Duo processor....much better specs all around than the Macbook and much cheaper, that I almost went for.

Hmm I dunno with PC Laptops. But if you really want a PC (but I'd personally go for an apple, then again more bang for the buck), I guess I'd go for a Sony Vaio. I heard they are really good. And They look quite sexy too. Nice form factor.

I agree about Sony's, Lucas. I almost bought a Sony over the hp I ended up with today. I prefer the Sony's look to my hp, but the features of my hp are the same or better, cheaper, so that's what I went with.

i dunno with sony's. They've made a nice name for their VAIO line of notebooks. Well for one they look really nice, and all the reviews I've read about sonys are Very good. But yeah only drawback with the sonys is the Price. It's not as cheap as the other makes but if you have some extra cash well, personally, I would be glad to shell out a little bit more for quality and sexiness. :)

You get all that stuff from Dell for half the price. How the hell do you think apple gives you more for your money? A similarly spec'ed PC is ALWAYS cheaper than the equivalent mac. You can argue if a Mac is better or worse all you want, but it is an absolute fact that they cost more. Trying to say a Mac is a better value is like trying to tell people the sky is green.

You heard wrong. I have dealt with them multiple times and they have always been extremely helpful and if something is wrong I have brand new parts at my door the next day. You have to understand, all computer tech support is crap. Dell has the best crap, bar none.
